About

Amp is a frontier coding agent built to give developers full access to the power of today’s leading AI models directly in their workflow. Available in the terminal and popular editors like VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, JetBrains, and Neovim, Amp integrates seamlessly into existing development environments. It enables developers to delegate complex coding tasks, refactors, reviews, and explorations to intelligent agents that understand and operate across entire codebases. With support for advanced models such as Claude Opus, Gemini, and GPT-class models, Amp delivers fast, reliable, and highly agentic code generation. The platform is designed for real-world engineering work, handling multi-file changes, deep context, and iterative improvements. Amp helps developers move faster while maintaining confidence in code quality.

About

Xirp is an agentic development environment built to give AI coding agents real organizational context instead of guesswork. It connects to your services, ownership, documentation, dependencies, and architectural decisions so every coding session starts grounded in how your systems actually work. Rather than seeing only the file being edited, it understands the larger system around it, including who owns upstream services, what depends on them, and why architectural choices were made. Its Workspace plugin for Spotify Portal keeps work items, sessions, and documentation in one place, preserving context when an engineer finishes a session so it is ready for the next person or agent. Xirp also turns knowledge generated during coding sessions into living documentation that stays current and feeds back into future work. It acts as a harness for the AI model you prefer, allowing teams to switch between Claude, Gemini, and Codex without losing context.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Good integration with Pycharm, unit tests support, solving quickly programming challenges. The biggest pros -> reading whole source code project and proposing the answer based on the rest of the code.
  • Takes the context of your code to give you answers, the vscode extension is awesome and support was incredibly fast when I had an issue.
  • Amp was easy to get started with and it's very intuitive to use. This has been a nice alternative to coding with ChatGPT up in a browser where I have to copy and paste my code back and forth. I'm a big fan of the preset prompts as there are a few I would never have thought of asking.

Cons

  • Not following the pattern in a single chat even. F.ex. if I polish the tests to be using that framework or that way to mock it for one set of tests, for next method, it is forgetting my earlier "style".
  • Sometimes the context is not that accurate, and the latest version came out bugged
  • Not too many drawbacks outside of the general limitations of the AI. There have been a couple of times I've asked it to rewrite code for me and I had to prompt it to get it to give me an example in actual code vs just advice about how to improve the code.
