About

Amp is a frontier coding agent built to give developers full access to the power of today’s leading AI models directly in their workflow. Available in the terminal and popular editors like VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, JetBrains, and Neovim, Amp integrates seamlessly into existing development environments. It enables developers to delegate complex coding tasks, refactors, reviews, and explorations to intelligent agents that understand and operate across entire codebases. With support for advanced models such as Claude Opus, Gemini, and GPT-class models, Amp delivers fast, reliable, and highly agentic code generation. The platform is designed for real-world engineering work, handling multi-file changes, deep context, and iterative improvements. Amp helps developers move faster while maintaining confidence in code quality.

About

MicroGPT revolutionizes how developers work by offering contextual support at every stage of the software development process. From providing code completions and chat support within IDEs to explaining code and answering documentation queries on GitHub, MicroGPT enhances the entire development workflow and helps developers concentrate on adding value, fostering innovation, and experiencing greater job satisfaction. Built as an AI coding assistant, it brings real-time coding suggestions, error detection, code reviews, optimization, debugging support, and code explanations into the environments developers already use. MicroGPT integrates directly with top code editors such as Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, and Neovim, and it also connects with GitHub so developers can get support close to the code, repositories, documentation, and project context they work with every day.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Good integration with Pycharm, unit tests support, solving quickly programming challenges. The biggest pros -> reading whole source code project and proposing the answer based on the rest of the code.
  • Takes the context of your code to give you answers, the vscode extension is awesome and support was incredibly fast when I had an issue.
  • Amp was easy to get started with and it's very intuitive to use. This has been a nice alternative to coding with ChatGPT up in a browser where I have to copy and paste my code back and forth. I'm a big fan of the preset prompts as there are a few I would never have thought of asking.

Cons

  • Not following the pattern in a single chat even. F.ex. if I polish the tests to be using that framework or that way to mock it for one set of tests, for next method, it is forgetting my earlier "style".
  • Sometimes the context is not that accurate, and the latest version came out bugged
  • Not too many drawbacks outside of the general limitations of the AI. There have been a couple of times I've asked it to rewrite code for me and I had to prompt it to get it to give me an example in actual code vs just advice about how to improve the code.
