About

Autodesk Fusion is a cloud-based product design and manufacturing platform that combines CAD, CAM, CAE, PCB, and data management in one solution. It helps teams connect design, engineering, manufacturing, electronics, and collaboration workflows in a unified workspace. The software supports product development from concept to production with tools for modeling, simulation, machining, PCB design, and drawing automation. Autodesk Fusion also includes built-in PDM and PLM capabilities to reduce version conflicts, improve collaboration, and keep project data secure and up to date. Teams can choose from Fusion, Fusion for Manufacturing, and Fusion for Design depending on their needs for advanced manufacturing, simulation, generative design, and data management. With cloud collaboration, integrated workflows, and AI-powered assistance, Autodesk Fusion helps companies bring products to market faster.

Why Altium Develop is Better than Autodesk Fusion

Altium Develop is a better fit than Autodesk Fusion for small electronics teams that need PCB design governance and release readiness alongside ECAD: it combines Altium Designer with a shared workspace for projects, libraries, browser-based reviews, commenting, task management, BOM access, controlled revision history, manufacturing handoff, and requirements traceability from customer needs through schematics, layouts, BOMs, verification, and test cases. It also supports structured design reviews with assigned reviewers, checklists, approvals, and traceable records, while allowing unlimited workspace users to participate in review and collaboration. Fusion Electronics provides capable schematic, PCB, simulation, and ECAD–MCAD workflows within Autodesk Fusion, but Altium Develop is more purpose-built for teams that need formal electronics review, component governance, requirements verification, and controlled releases.

Pros from Real Users

Pros

  • All the features of the earlier Altium Designer Professional version, but at a reduced cost. It is a great value.
  • The core feature set is complete: schematic capture, multilayer PCB layout, differential pair and length-tuned routing, design rule checking, 3D board view and MCAD/STEP export are all in one package. It handles complex, dense boards, including the 77 GHz radar boards we design, and the output files (Gerbers, ODB++, BOMs, pick-and-place) are accepted by every fab and assembly house we work with. It is an industry standard, so files and libraries are easy to share with partners.
  • - Can import designs from many different other EDA software - Fully integrated - Works well with Flexible circuit boards - License solutions have improved
  • The library tool is great as it is one of the few things I can say is superior to KiCAD or any other open-source alternative.
  • End-to-End Reliability: It delivers a highly robust solution covering the entire process of PCB design from start to finish. Seamless Cloud Integration: The cloud ecosystem works flawlessly for real-time collaboration and sharing data with both teammates and production facilities. Flawless Version Control: The Git-based version control is a massive plus, practically eliminating any misunderstandings or mix-ups regarding design revisions. Rewarding Learning Curve: While getting up to speed is medium to hard, mastering the system pays off significantly in long-term productivity.
  • I have been a regular user of Altium since 2013 when I first used it in my course. Altium is by far one of the best PCB design tools available, especially for RF and high-speed designs. The layout tools, impedance-controlled routing and design rule system handle demanding boards very well. Altium 365 is a strong addition for cloud collaboration, making it easy to share projects and keep a team working from the same data. For anyone who has outgrown KiCad and needs proper collaboration features, it is a very capable step up.
  • Real-time collaboration is the biggest strength — our team can work in one cloud workspace with version history and comments instead of passing design files around. Sharing a design for review takes a link rather than an export, which saves time on every design review.
  • We are a small team of electrical engineers and have been using Altium Develop since January, it has been a great tool, and highly recommend.
  • The core functionality for 90% of Altium features are present in Altium Develop. It has the main schematic capture, layout, etc features and the additional things like cloud storage and sharing with 365 which is convenient to share designs with non EEs.
  • a. versatile user-interface, rich set of tools. b. built-in PCB 3d realtime illustration. c. powerful quote function, lot easier to make customized selections. d. harness and customized net color makes schematic design more efficient. e. PCB Panel is extreme helpful. f. very easy-to-use and handful draftsman.
