About

Aibuild is an advanced additive manufacturing (AM) software platform that integrates AI-driven automation, hybrid manufacturing, and real-time monitoring to streamline industrial 3D printing processes. It supports a range of AM technologies, including polymer extrusion, metal DED, WAAM, concrete, and paste extrusion, compatible with both robotic and gantry systems. It combines additive and subtractive manufacturing within a single interface, offering CNC milling capabilities such as drilling, engraving, and contouring. Aibuild's AI assistant autonomously generates ready-to-print toolpaths, while its smart toolpathing adapts to complex geometries, optimizing bead dimensions and thermal behavior for improved print quality. It provides in-process monitoring using RGB and IR cameras to detect defects, ensuring quality assurance through thermal simulations and adaptive infill strategies.

About

DeskProto is a 3D CAM program for 3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines. It can import 2D vector files (DXF, SVG, EPS, AI), 3D geometry files (STL, DXF) and bitmap files (any digital image), calculate CNC toolpaths for that design, simulate the result, and finally export a toolpath file for the machine that you selected - a long list of supported machines is present. DeskProto is available in our different editions: Free, Entry, Expert and Multi-Axis. The last three need a paid license, hobbyist users can buy a low-cost hobby license .

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • all the features are there, some what easy to learn, much shorter learning curve than others, Wizards make it easy to set up a project. Low cost and no subscription needed.
  • Simple to use - the wizards really take the guesswork out of things for beginners. Scaleable - you can be as much in control of the process as you wish for, so it grows well with you as you grow in confidence

Cons

  • UI is a bit dated. Really no cons once you get used to the layout
  • I am unhappy that they have only just released the V-Carve solution. I have not yet upgraded to the Version 8 that incorporates this, as I have got used to making do with FEngrave. This would have been a nice to have before trying to go the hard route. I understand that tool paths can be broken, it would be nice (but potentially impossible to predict) to know this before embarking on a visualisation that just sits doing nothing for hours. Note I am still on V7, so this may be addressed in V8
