About

Actcast is an edge-AI IoT platform service that links events and data from the physical world to the Web by performing deep learning inference on edge devices, enabling real-time sensing, analysis, and integration of physical data with online systems while reducing data transfer costs and privacy risks. It uses edge computing to run deep learning models locally on low-cost hardware such as Raspberry Pi, converting raw sensor and camera input into actionable, semantic data that can be sent to web services or applications. It supports deployment, remote management, and monitoring of IoT applications (“Acts”) across many devices, and provides tools such as an SDK and command-line interface to develop, package, and deploy applications in Docker containers that process input and send summarized results. Actcast also includes features for managing device groups, configuring triggers and webhooks to notify events, and handling updates and device status from a centralized dashboard.

About

Amazon Elastic Inference allows you to attach low-cost GPU-powered acceleration to Amazon EC2 and Sagemaker instances or Amazon ECS tasks, to reduce the cost of running deep learning inference by up to 75%. Amazon Elastic Inference supports TensorFlow, Apache MXNet, PyTorch and ONNX models. Inference is the process of making predictions using a trained model. In deep learning applications, inference accounts for up to 90% of total operational costs for two reasons. Firstly, standalone GPU instances are typically designed for model training - not for inference. While training jobs batch process hundreds of data samples in parallel, inference jobs usually process a single input in real time, and thus consume a small amount of GPU compute. This makes standalone GPU inference cost-inefficient. On the other hand, standalone CPU instances are not specialized for matrix operations, and thus are often too slow for deep learning inference.
