Manic Miner '88
===============

Manic Miner '88 is a faithful conversion of the classic ZX Spectrum
game written by Matthew Smith. All the features, graphics and sounds of
the original are present, although unfortunately the colours could not
be reproduced on the Z88! :-(

The game behaves like any standard Z88 application and may be suspended
at any time. Commands and options are available through the standard
menu system, although there was not room to provide any online help.

The in-game "music" option only toggles the tune on and off (other
sound effects and the title screen music still occur), so if you want
to play totally without sound you should turn off the sound setting in
the Panel.

The following options are available:

Display: The Z88's screen is too narrow to show the entire play area at
once, so this option allows you to select between two ways to view it.
The default method (scroll) is to display graphics at full size and
scroll the screen when necessary. The other method (squash) compresses
the graphics vertically to fit everything on screen at once.

Invert: Another display option, this allows you to choose a light or
dark background to the caverns.

Version: Two versions of Manic Miner were released on the Spectrum: the
original Bug-Byte release, and a later one from Software Projects.
These had different graphics on some caverns, a different scrolling
message and a different "cheat" method. This option allows you to
select the behaviour of the Z88 game.

The following commands are also available:

Load levels: Allows you to select a file containing alternate levels to
the standard Manic Miner caverns. Several updated versions of the
Spectrum game have been produced recently, and you can play some of
these using files obtained from the Z88 Forever! website.

IMPORTANT HEALTH WARNING! Some of the available edited versions allow
illegal moves off the edges of the screen - this could cause corruption
of your Z88's memory. Please check the notes on the website, and backup
your Z88 before playing any dodgy versions.

Redefine keys: Select your own control keys using this command.

Quit: This kills the game, so probably will not be much use to you ;-)
