  • I just compiled the code for Fedora 36. If you have nedit already installed, you still might need to install the following: libXt-devel.x86_64 libXmu-devel.x86_64 motif-devel.x86_64 libXpm-devel.x86_64. Seems to work OK; you may want to edit the xnedit nedit.rc file to match nedit nedit.rc, as opposed to going through the default chooser in a running xnedit editor. I'm not sure this should be on the review page, but someone more familiar with the project might want to have this somewhere else.
  • XNEdit is easy to use and very easy on resources. Most of its functionality is keyboard-friendly, no need to use the mouse (but you can if you so wish). I use it as my every day lightweight editor, with Emacs whenever I need an IDE instead. If you liked the venerable NEdit, you would like XNEdit even more.
  • I'm using NEdit since the 90s on any *nix system I was on. It's the perfect editor for daily work and programming, especially the macro system is very useful for me. This fork with it's UTF8 support brings it to the next level. Simply perfect.
  • was using nedit since 1996, was struggling for years that nedit did not support modern fonts and utf8, this project ensure that i will continue to use xnedit for the next 25 years, thanks
  • Hi, Just a great thanks for all the effort on this. nedit has been the main fs editor here since the early 1990's, and use it daily for work, but this updated version fixes previous limitations and plots a path for the future. Built and installed in minutes under FreeBSD 12... Chris
  • Compiles and works flawlessly in FreeBsd & NetBsd, After over 20 years of using Nedit, I was pretty sure Nedit was dead because the lack of releases. Thanks for all your work on Xnedit.
  • Amazing UTF-8 and antialiased fonts after all these years! And even font replacement, if font does not have the requested character. Chinese characters are so crisp, incredible. A dream come true. File selection box in detail view also supports date and file size, as well as sorting by desired column. Font selector has a preview, so you know what will you get.
  • Finally, after 15 Years since #97 UTF-8 Patch, Nirvana Editor with Unicode.
