Winboard 4.5 Accessible Chess is a free, accessible Chess program for
the blind or those who can not use a mouse, such as quadriplegics and
the low sighted. It works automatically with the JAWS or the free NVDA
screen reader, which provide vocal announcements of all moves made as
well as a verbal inventory of any possible chess board position group or
individual square condition, all accessed with keystroke shortcuts. The
program supports full keyboard operation. Low sighted players will use
high contrast mode and adjust board and piece color and most font sizes.
Available languages are English, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and
Russian. Pre-installed Chess engines called "Fruit" and "FairyMax" are
ready for Grand Master strength and "Variant Chess" play or analysis.
Games and analysis or both may be output to chess a notation file with
the PGN extension readbale as text. Connect to the console to the
internet Chess Server at FICS (Free Internet Chess Server) from within
the program as 'guest' or with a personal account obtained at the FICS
web sight and play humans of every skill level. Chat is also available
through "ICS commands", type help. Read "Setting Up WinBoard 4.5 for
JAWS.doc" for the quick start guide or "Winboard 4.5 for JAWS.doc" which
is the full manual, both in the "doc" folder of the Winboard
installation directory. Keyboard shortcuts are described in full in
"keystrokes.doc". Best Regards David Acevedo chessmatch@att.net
