  • Register the account to say thanks to the author. This is the best virtual desktop app among those including MS built-in implementation, and a bunch of commercials.
  • Year 2023, I am still happy with the VirtuaWin software. However, I cannot ignore the comments about the Excel ribbon problem. It is a valid concern that I have encountered myself. My workaround is to press "CTRL + O" + ESC in Excel to bring up the ribbon, it works. While it may not be the most efficient method, I have adapted to it. May fortune be with us all.

  • absolutely GREAT GREAT GREAT, life on earth would be miserable without it! :D
  • We are in 2021, running Windows 10 latest version VirtuaWin is still an absolute must have One of the few remaining virtual desktop managers still alive and doing its job perfectly
  • Same problem as adelara (July 2019) for me : Excel ribbon gone after switching desktop. Since a few month now. I suspect an Office Suite Pro update, but in the same days, I also got a Windows 10 update ...
  • Works very well. Have been using since..... 2012 or earlier so I am a power user of this thing. Never had a problem except today, I finally found something that is probably Microsoft fault... I received a new Windows 10 machine (Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17763.805]) and when I have Excel in one desktop with an open spreadsheet, if I switch to another desktop and come back the ribbon in Excel is gone. It's not a particular spreadsheet as I tested with several and even with a fresh blank. It was working on my previous Windows version so like I said, it's probably Microsoft screw-up once again (what a shocker...) I still give it 5 (five ) stars as this app gets the idea right !
  • As an IT Admin, I work with lots of data at times and have multiple screens open at the same time, VirtuaWin is a must have for this and it's faster and more convenient than the desktop switching in Win10
  • NICE!
  • Needs some additional modules but overall VirtualWin works like a charm.
  • Excellent multiple workspace application for windows. Thanks! I really appreciate the fact that the listing from the notification icon listing the workspaces and active windows allows selected wiindows/applications to be set in all workspaces. I also appreciate that when I run the Windows TaskManger , it is workspace specific! Very useful. I do have one quibble... Setting the HotKeys was a bit confusing, even confounding. In the SETUP interface, on the Hotkeys TAB, the "text widget" box for entering 'Hotkey' is expecting the actual key (or keys in my case since I add either ALT or CTL along with WIN to a number key). I was trying to type "Alt+Num3' for example (along with setting the WIN checkbox). Instead I just needed to press ALT while typing the number key. Perhaps this intuitive to some, but I had a rough time finally getting it right. (In fact, installing on a new laptop with the old laptop available allowed me to look at me settings from a previous install, but this probably made it harder since the "C + W + Num3" reported as the existiing setting, for example" led me to think I should just type in the same thing (except maybe not the WIN key since a checkbox was provided. Anyway, THANKS for a very useful productivity tool. Alas, the future of serious computing drifts away as the software world drifts to mobile devices with 1 (or maybe 2) workspaces (really just apps).
  • Very handy tool for multiple vitrual desktop with plenty of rsources and plugins
  • It's super light, doesn't need Aero or desktop compositing to be running, so you can use it on old machines, you can just outright turn off aero when you're gaming and still have your desktops, you can use it in a virtual machine. It's open source (aka trojan free) and rather simple to compile because it relies on MingW instead of that Macroshaft VisualCrap++. If you the desktop preview module with it it become alot more user friendly and gui like. Combine that with the SmallWindows project which does exposé and is also open source and does not use aero either, you'd have a pretty solid desktop. If you compile it, be aware that you may need to modify the mingw executable line in the Makefiles depending on what version you're using. Be also aware that the devs forgot to add a couple of libraries for two of the modules and the winlist.exe. The missing library line for the modules is LIBS = -lcomctl32 (and it goes under the exe flag section secton of the makefile). I don't what the missing libraries for Winlist.exe.
  • Works perfectly, fast, reliable. A great help when you use your computer for different activities to improve productivity and comfort. (Windows 7)
  • Excelent program. Missing small features, but help a lot! With win10 isn't 100% integrated, but's work
  • This has been always godsend for me any time I've been doing long projects on Windows, especially when working on the confined screenspace of my laptop. However since the release of Windows 10 (which has virtual desktops built-in) I have been wondering about the future of VW. Although I like the Win 10 virtual desktops, they lack a couple of features that I liked from VW, such as the customizable keyboard shortcuts and quick jumping to specific desktops via keys. I think it would be great if VW could integrate with Win 10's built-in virtual desktops so that we can get the best of both worlds.
  • Makes Windows usable and it's free software, what could you want more?
  • Fits nice for me. Works similar to GNOME desktop switcher
  • So may time using it, still best option out there: simple, fast and full featured. Hotkeys is one of the most importan parts for me
  • Works very well in Windows 8.1 (not using Metro interface) - well done!
  • As others have said, VirtuaWin works very well. The only problem is that the vwKvasdoPager is not updated to be in sync with VirtuaWin, but there are patches available.
  • It's great, but it can cause major freezing or takes a ton of the computer up. My fans are spinning they never do. Some programs cannot be open and keeps freezing, but the taskbar has modifications and its working with it. Different desktop, different programs open. This is working great.
  • I was concerned when reading a few of the comments regarding Windows 8 (8.1) and seeing the code hadn't been touched in in over a year... But it is working excellently! Great job. +1
  • This program provides the functionality that the gnome environment provides by default. I love the flexibility that it provides. It is great to have the same mobility but on a different platform.
  • Virtuawin is good! Thanks.
