The source zip contains a complete eclipse project, which is independent from any ivy or maven dependencies, if you copy the files from the vaadim-jars.zip to the web-inf/lib direcory.  

It compiles, can be exported as war and can be tested in any java webserver.

The same applies for the scala source.  In addition you have to copy the files from the sala-jars.zip to the web-inf/lib direcory.  
Hence you have a full fledged scala vaadin example.
