iConnect Beta 1 Build 3 Readme Before using this software please read the license Agreement. Any information in this document is used at your own risk. Release Date: 22 September 2005 This is the third build of the beta release. Index -=-=- 1.) Bug Fixes and Updates. 2.) What is iConnect? 3.) Setting up your system to use iConnect. 4.) Configuring iConnect. 5.) The UTC and iConnect. 6.) FAQ. 7.) Known Bugs. Section 1 (Bug Fixes and Updates) -=-=-=-=- *Beta 1 Build 3* - Application popup menu added to the graph as well (previously just the panel) - Changed the removal of spaces in signal strength to use trim function. Resolved incorrect signal strength being shown. - Moved the exception catching on the signalstrength int conversation - Unknown Towers now have the towerid as a suffix to help identify new towers. (Ask requested by myadsl forumites) - Removed all the "smart" error handling on ping exception that i think is causing the AV - Added a third timer which handles displaying the ping reply. This stops the app from looking like it has locked up. - iConnect will run while iBurst is not connect to the Internet. *Beta 1 Build 2* (Not Released to Public) * Added system tray icon support. * Updated readme file. * Quickstart Guide. *Beta 1 Build 1* * First Release of iConnect * Latency test to an IP Address or website. This can be set by the user. * Update frequency of the latency test. * Current tower the UTD is using (The actual tower name). * The signal strength of a tower you are currently connected to. * The update frequency of tower field. * The ability to create a log file of all the information iConnect gathers. Section 2 (What is iConnect?) -=-=-=-=- iConnect is an application that reads information from your iBurst(tm) UTD and UTC. The application displays hidden information, such as the signal strength of all the towers your UTC/UTC has detected, the names of all the towers your UTD/UTC has detected, the current tower you are connected to, a latency test to a website of your choice and a graphing system. Section 3 (Setting up your system to use iConnect) -=-=-=-=- iConnect only requires one specific thing to run correctly. An IP address must be set on the iBurst Ethernet or USB interface. Please look at the quickstart guide for more detailed information on how to setup iConnect. The Quick version is shown below. In order for iConnect to work, you need to apply an IP Address to the iBurst Lan interface. This needs to be done regardless of whether you are running your UTD through the Ethernet Interface or USB Interface. * Go to your network connections. Start -> Right Click "My Network Places" -> Left Click Properties (OR) Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections * Look for a "Local Area Connection" with the Device Type "iBurst UTD". * Go to the properties for this Local Area Connection and select TCP/IP. * Set the IP Address to 192.168.250.30 with a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0 * Now click OK and fire up iConnect! Section 4 (Configuring iConnect) -=-=-=-=- On starting the program you need to configure it. Once the iConnect panel has come up, right click on it and select "configuration". Here you will be able to configure the following: * The area you are currently in. * What you would like to graph * How often to update the UTD data. * The address or host you would like to use to test latency. * How often to do the latency test. * Set whether the iConnect windows is transparent or not. * The ability to save UTD info to a log file. To start, you need to set the area, otherwise you will get "unknown tower" under Visible Towers and Current Tower. Set the graph to what you want. You can either graph latency or Signal Strength. NOTE: The signal strength graphing mode shows the signal strengths of all the towers your UTD/UTC has detected. It's not the signal strength of the current tower. Status update allows you to set the update frequency of the tower checks. 10 Seconds is the default. The "Latency test host" setting allows you to enter an IP Address or web address the latency test will use. Basically it will "ping" that address. The "Latency test update" sets how often the system does the ping test. The "Transparent" check box allows you to set whether you want the iConnect window to be see thru or solid. The "Save to log" allows you to dump the information gather from your UTD to a log file. Don't forget to add a filename in the browse box below the "save to log" checkbox. Section 5 (The UTC and iConnect) -=-=-=-=- The UTC does work with iConnect. I unfortunately don't have one to write setup instructions for. Section 6 (FAQ) -=-=-=-=- Q : Why does the application take such a long time to start? A : It's the time it takes for the program to connect to the UTD and read the first line of data. Q : Can I run iConnect all the time? A : Yes, but I been told that it can take up to 20% off your internet connection speed due to the overhead imposed by the application. Q : If I have a problem / bug / complaint / suggestion who do I email? A : sweetsmoke1@gmail.com Q : When I start iConnect I get "Unknown Tower" for both Visible and Current Tower, Why? A : You need to set the area you are in. Right click iConnect, select "Configuration" and set you area. Section 7 (Known Bugs) -=-=-=-=- * iConnect now runs if you aren't connected to the internet, but it responds very slowly when you aren't connected to the internet and the configuration menu doesn't come up. * If your UTD IP is not setup the program will freeze.
