UltraKiss 4.1 update 2 (September 5, 2025) corrected a thread problem that lead to intermittent Java errors and improved the UltraKiss Portal browser forward and back functions. See Help-Read Me-What's New for a list of corrections.
How does UltraKiss work in the browser?
UltraKiss is a Java Desktop application. It is deployed on a web server that runs a demonstration version of Webswing. When you press the button above you will access this server. If the server is running you will receive a notice that it is starting the application.
Use the UltraKiss Portal to show links to KiSS sets available on OtakuWorld and other sites on the Internet. You can also use the File-Open command to open and load KiSS files stored on your computer.
Limitations
- Webswing must be running on my remote server for this service to work. If you are unable to connect to the server wait for up to 10 minutes for an automatic server restart and try again. If you are still unable to connect submit an issue report.
- Browsers do not natively support MIDI or AU sound files. Only WAV and MP3 files will play in KiSS sets.
- Only KiSS sets in LZH and ZIP file archives can be opened in UltraKiss with a File-Open menu command.
- Files can only be saved and uploaded to your computer with a File-Save As menu command.
- Server memory is limited. File-Open sets are limited to 5MB.
- Your session will timeout and close if no activity for 5 minutes.

How to install UltraKiss
Automated Installers (64 bit architecture)
Windows Installer UltraKiss_windows-x64_4_1.exe
Linux Installer UltraKiss_unix_4_1.sh
Apple Mac OS Installer UltraKiss_macos_4_1.dmg
Click on the links to download the file to your computer. On Linux systems you may have to set the downloaded file to executable to run the installer. On Windows systems you may be prompted from the browser to run the installation file directly. On Apple systems you may have to override the security settings to install the downloaded file from an unknown developer.
Standard Installation (32 bit architecture)
All systems UltraKiss_4.1_jre8_201.zip
To install from a traditional zip file, for all systems, extract all the files from the UltraKiss_4.1_jre8_201.zip download. This extract will create a folder named ultrakiss. On all systems, you must run the UltraKiss program from within the ultrakiss folder. This is required for access to the sound and help libraries. This folder also contains a standalone version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 8 for systems that do not have Java installed.
For local execution on a Windows system with or without Java installed, run UltraKiss_4.1_jre8_201.exe found in the ultrakiss folder. This program is a fully self-contained bundled application created with Launch4j. This program uses a 32 bit Java 8 runtime system. This version of UltraKiss will run on Windows XP and all later versions of Windows.
For local execution on a Linux or Apple or Windows system with Java already installed, run the kisekae.jar file from the ultrakiss folder using the java -jar kisekae.jar command. If the .jar extension is configured in your system as a Java application then you can run the program by directly clicking on this file.
