This is still a beta version of Captioner, it looks like it works to me... Captioner is to be used as a smart clip, an example follows: http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/radiobutton.htm open the file you wish to caption, then open Captioner.fla as library (or shared library) and drag it onto the stage where you would like it to appear (you can also resize it). right click on it to bring up the clip parameters dialog and change the settings to suit your needs. The XML file I use is the default save file of Magpie 2.0 (beta). A few things to keep in mind, * Large XML files tend to load slowly in flash... I'm working on that. * Font sizes specified in the html captions are interpreted literally this is a flash limitation, keep it in mind when creating your captions * The current version uses device fonts to render the captions, the alternative was to limit you to only one or two fonts. * There currently isn't a way to trigger the start of the captions... the caption engine runs as soon as the timeline sees it. (including the delay for XML load) I couldn't find an elegant solution that would keep the clip easy to use. I'm still working on it. * The sound clip that the captioner is syncing to MUST be streamed (click on the sound dialog, and select stream from the Sync drop down) http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/audio_synch_options.htm (for more info) * A debug value of 1 is very noisy, only use it if you are experienced with flash and having trouble with the parser. Please also send me your changes. * The xml file is read in at runtime, this means you can change it as often as you like, but it also means that it MUST be in the same directory as the swf on the server. I'll make one that holds a static copy of the captions if someone wants it, it's just more useful to me this way. * I have never before written captioning software or software that interfaces with it I may have the completely wrong approach... Please send me comments. jsmith@aaas.org Jason Smith AAAS (www.aaas.org)
