These files are the full UberStudent ISO installed in to Oracle VirtualBox with Guest Additions added. They are fully ready to be imported into and used in Oracle Virtual Box (virtualbox.org). They are offered to enable quick, full-featured testing and initial usage of UberStudent.

To import these OVA files in to Oracle VirtualBox, see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26217_01/E26796/html/qs-import-vm.html and follow the simple directions.

When booting in to the virtual machine, there is no login authentication. You will be automatically logged in and authenticated with the username uberstudent and password uberstudent. If you do anything with root, uberstudent is the password. To disable the auto-login, as root open the file /usr/share/uberstudent/mdm-conf/mdm.conf and comment out lines 56 through 60 and reboot.

The size of the expandable virtual drives in these OVAs is 12 GB. This cannot be changed in any Virtualbox configuration. If you need a larger virtual hardrive, download an UberStudent ISO, install it with a larger virtual space using Ubuntu and the appropriate 32- or 64-bit architecture as the base system, and then add Guest Additions. Consult the Oracle Virtial Box documentation for a how-to on installing Guest Additions. It's very straightforward.

The amount of preconfigured memory in these OVAs is 1024MB (1GB), the minimum amount required to productively run UberStudent with a variety of programs. UberStudent without any programs running consumes about 350MB of memory. If your system has it to spare, it's recommended that you increase the amount of memory in the Oracle VirtualBox to 2048MB (2GB) or more, so UberStudent can conurrently run any number of programs without any concern at all. To do that, in the Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager (initial window that opens when you run VirtualBox from your menu), right-click over the appliance listed on the left and then go to Settings > System, and then in the Motherboard tab use the slider to increase the Base Memory. If you need to run these OVAs with LESS THAN 1 GB of memory, disable compositing and the UberStudent Logo from the Xfce startup programs after you initially boot in and then reboot.
