Installation steps for orca marathi screen-reader: 1. Install festival (if ubuntu, sudo apt-get install festival) 2. Copy the voice folder marathi to the voices folder of festival . eg./usr/share/festival/voices/ 3.Install orca ( if ubuntu, sudo apt-get install orca) 4. The voice can be tested as follows ➢ Type festival --heap 2100000 -i --server in command prompt ➢ Type orca -n in another command prompt window ➢ The orca window pops up ➢ choose the festival synthesizer and marathi voice in the orca/preferences/speech tab ➢ If festival synthesizer does not load, install gnome-speech-swift (if ubuntu, sudo apt-get install gnome-speech-swift) and start festival and orca again ➢ If a timeout occurs for orca, type “locate settings.py” in command prompt, and open the files named settings.py in any orca related folders. Usually there are more than one. Search for the phrase timeoutTime and change its value to 30. Do the same for all files named settings.py. Start festival and orca again. 5. If an english word is not there in the database, it spells it out.
