  • I've always considered trn to be The One True Newsreader. It's very old, but still the fastest way there is to blast through newsgroups, by far. You really want 4.0-test76. The 3.6 that you get when you "apt-get install trn" does not understand MIME. Caveats: On modern gcc compilers, you must have patch 1736810, and you must install ncurses-dev if you don't already have a curses package. On a Mac OSX, you also need patch 2818663.
