v5.3.0 - A Browser In The App, Pages, Outlook & Reviewed Approvals

Row-Bot 5.3 puts its browser inside the app and rebuilds computer use. Row-Bot can make pages you work in beside the chat, ask you questions with options, and connect Outlook and several X accounts. Chats can be incognito, background work shows up at once, Auto approvals are reviewed and a new Hands-off level asks nothing. Row-Bot can run servers and long jobs in the background, edit video, send you files and work on code from any of your devices. Claude works with your Claude plan again, through your own Claude Code. From 5.2.1 it arrives through background updates: Settings › Updates offers Restart now. Read Upgrade Notes below before upgrading.

New Since The Beta

  • Row-Bot uses what it can do, without being asked - you no longer have to name a feature:
  • a plan, checklist, comparison or numbers to track becomes a page;
  • a choice only you can make comes as a question card;
  • research on several things goes to helpers;
  • a file server or watcher starts in the background, in your workspace;
  • "keep me on track" gets a plan and a weekly check-in.
  • Faster first replies, less of your plan used - a new chat sends about 40% less to the model before your first message. Tool guides and rarely used tools are read when needed, not sent every time. With a ChatGPT plan, the shared start of each new chat is now found in the provider's cache, about 95% of a new chat's first request.
  • Always ask me in workflows - a workflow step set to Always ask me now stops for your answer, where it used to fail. Its card says what runs, such as "Run shell command: mkdir reports".
  • Local models - when a local model writes a tool call its runtime can't read, Row-Bot asks it once more instead of stopping with "The response was interrupted". First run suggests the most capable models you have installed, and never an "abliterated" or "uncensored" one. qwen3.8 is recognised as a model that uses tools.
  • A Mac installer that shows the way - the DMG opens on a window that says "Drag Row-Bot to Applications", with an arrow.
  • Fixes from beta testing:
  • "Add and process" in Documents no longer stops at "The documents list changed";
  • signing in to a provider refreshes its models;
  • a refused sign-in no longer leaves its dialog stuck;
  • every memory write in an incognito chat, including a helper's, asks you with its own card;
  • a Mac app whose keychain asks for permission at start no longer freezes;
  • logging "5k in 31 minutes" records the minutes.
  • Polish from beta feedback:
  • clearer approval wording, with tool errors in plain words;
  • no internal tags or "(Source: Internal Knowledge)" in replies;
  • favourites shown in every model picker;
  • helper chats kept out of the Library;
  • the conversation details card laid out properly at narrower windows;
  • an easier-to-find Browser pane;
  • named workflow controls.

Row-Bot's Browser And Computer Use

  • The browser is inside the app - a Browser pane beside the chat shows the page live as Row-Bot works, with tabs, an address bar, Back, Forward, Reload, Take control / Give back and Stop. Pop it out to its own window, or use it full screen on a phone. It works from any signed-in device.
  • Sign in once - Row-Bot's browser keeps you signed in to sites across restarts. When a page asks for a password, code or card number, the pane says "Sign in here" and you type it; Row-Bot never does. Settings › System › Browser and computer use lists the sites you're signed in to, with Sign out.
  • Normal sites just work - sign-in pages with redirects, embedded sign-in frames, pop-ups, uploads, downloads and slow pages.
  • Asks at the right moments - Row-Bot asks before paying, buying, booking with a charge, sending, posting, deleting, changing account settings or uploading a file, with a card that shows the page.
  • Computer use, rebuilt - Row-Bot works in an app on your computer with the real mouse and keyboard while you watch, looks at the window after every step and carries on by itself. A Stop bar on your screen ("Row-Bot is using …") ends it at once with Esc; the chat's Stop works from any device. Use the mouse yourself and Row-Bot pauses and asks "Carry on?". It asks the first time it uses each app in a chat, and never types passwords, codes or card numbers.
  • In the chat - "Using the browser" or "Using Microsoft Edge" with a live picture; tap it to watch. Models that see images look at the page or window after each step.

Pages And Questions

  • Pages - ask for a plan you can approve step by step, a checklist, a dashboard, options to compare, a form or a small calculator, and Row-Bot makes an interactive page beside the chat (full screen on a phone). Approve, change or skip steps, then send your decisions in one go; nothing is sent until you click. Pages remember what you tick on every device, follow light and dark, download as HTML and are all in Library › Pages. A page runs apart from Row-Bot, with no internet and no access to your chats, files or tools.
  • Questions with options - Row-Bot can ask you a question in a card: tap an option, write your own answer or skip. It works in the app, from helpers and workflows, and in Telegram, Discord, Slack and WhatsApp. An answer is never taken as an approval.

Outlook And X

  • Outlook, through your own Microsoft app - connect an Outlook or Microsoft 365 mailbox (outlook.com too) with an app you register in Microsoft Entra; no client secret. Sign in on this computer, or from a phone with a code. Row-Bot can search, read, draft, file and send mail and manage your calendar; sending, replying, forwarding, deleting and invitations always ask first.
  • Microsoft 365 setup asks for your tenant - connecting a Microsoft 365 (Work IQ) server asks for your Microsoft Entra tenant ID instead of failing, and says it needs an admin and Copilot Credits. A setup step that fails says what went wrong.
  • Several X accounts - connect more than one X account in Settings › Apps › X and remove any one on its own. Every post, reply, quote or delete names the account it goes out as; its card shows that account, the whole text and each picture or video, and only you can approve it, even under Auto. If X doesn't confirm a post, Row-Bot checks the account's latest posts instead of sending it again.

Privacy

  • Incognito chats - start one from New chat ▾ › New incognito chat, or turn any chat incognito from its ⋯ menu (in a channel chat, /incognito on). Row-Bot and its helpers work as usual and can still use what they remember, but nothing in an incognito chat is read for memory. Row-Bot saves to memory from it only when you tap Save on its card, under every approval level. Turning incognito off never reaches back: memory reads the chat only from that moment.
  • Install stats - once a day, Row-Bot sends its maker a random ID, its version and your system (Windows, macOS, Linux or Docker), nothing else, so its maker can see how many installations are in use. It is on by default and goes to Row-Bot's stats service on Cloudflare. Cloudflare sees your IP address, as for any connection, and the service counts how many installations reported from each country each day; it never stores the address, and never keeps the country with your installation's ID. Records are deleted after 35 days; only totals without IDs are kept. Turn it off in Settings › System › Privacy ("Share install stats") or with ROW_BOT_INSTALL_COUNT=0 on a server or in Docker; the same page can delete what was sent and lists everything else Row-Bot contacts.

Approvals

  • Auto is reviewed - under Auto, a reviewer (the chat's own model at its lowest effort) approves an action that clearly matches what you asked and asks you about anything else. If it can't decide, it asks. Its decisions show quietly on the step. Chats, profiles and workflows set to Auto use it.
  • Hands-off - a new level that runs every action without asking, including the ones Auto still asks about. You choose it on purpose, after one clear warning, and Row-Bot shows it while it's on.
  • Plain words - approvals and steps name the app and what it will do ("Allow Stripe to create a product?"), never a tool's raw name. On a phone the card no longer shows a keyboard shortcut.
  • Helpers ask in your chat - when a helper agent needs an approval, the card shows in the conversation that started it.

Work In The Background

  • Servers and long commands - Row-Bot can start a dev server or a long command and carry on with the conversation. It asks first, as it does for a command; follow, read and stop them in the chat and in Monitor. They stop when Row-Bot quits.
  • Helpers follow the conversation - helper agents use the chat's model and reasoning. Ask for another ("use a helper on Sonnet at low effort") or use /agent --model … --reasoning …. A helper keeps the chat's apps; a read-only helper only reads them. Its row and header say which model and reasoning it runs on.
  • Stop is immediate - Stop ends a cloud model's request at once. Before, a request still waiting on the provider kept the turn at "Stopping…" until the provider answered, on Linux and in Docker for every provider.

Browser, Video And Files

  • Apps on this computer - Row-Bot's browser opens a local development address once you allow it in that chat; servers Row-Bot started itself need no asking. It can take page screenshots at phone, tablet or desktop size.
  • Recordings - after asking, Row-Bot can record its browser, or the screen with Computer Use.
  • Video editing - trim, speed up, crop, zoom, add titles and captions. ffmpeg (about 30 MB) is downloaded once, after asking, and never comes with the installer. Intel Macs and Windows on Arm use an ffmpeg you install.
  • Many images at once - Row-Bot looks at up to 8 images together, and makes contact sheets that tile many images, or a video's frames, into one.
  • Send a file - ask Row-Bot to send a file to your phone or computer (a download in the chat on every signed-in device for 7 days, with a notice in open windows), or to your own chat on Telegram, Discord, Slack or WhatsApp (it asks first).

Code And Workflows

  • Code folders from any device - attach a code folder from your phone or another computer: choose one in Row-Bot's workspace folder, or clone one there. Cloning follows your approval level.
  • A sandbox ready for tests - Prepare sandbox installs a project's test tools with the network on only for the install. Row-Bot offers it when tests can't run, and offers to download the sandbox image when you choose Docker.
  • Workflows as a flowchart - Edit workflow › Steps shows a workflow as a flowchart, with labelled branches and loops. Click a step to edit it; a problem shows on its step. The list is one tap away.
  • Workflow details - a Monthly schedule preset, each step shows the apps it uses, and Delivery lists only the channels you've set up.
  • A workflow's own folder, timezone and missed runs - a workflow can work in its own code folder, keep its schedule in a timezone you choose (daylight saving keeps the time), and run once when Row-Bot starts if it was closed at a scheduled time.
  • Always ask me - makes a workflow step or an app wait for your own approval, even under Auto or Hands-off, on a card that shows exactly what will be sent.
  • Your Git identity - Row-Bot no longer sets a Git name or email by itself; only you choose who your commits are from.

Models And Apps

  • Claude with your Claude plan - Row-Bot runs your own Claude Code, installed and signed in by you, for each model call. Row-Bot never reads, stores or passes on a Claude credential, and every tool call still goes through Row-Bot's approvals. For these runs Claude Code's telemetry, error reports and auto-updates are turned off. Settings › Providers says what to do at each step: install, sign in, update or check.
  • Favourite models - favourite the models you use and hide the rest, from the model picker's ⋯ menu (or Shift+F10) and in Settings › Models. Setup lists your favourites first. Hidden models wait under More models and still work.
  • Connect an app from your phone - a sign-in finishes through Row-Bot's public address, by pasting back the address your browser ends on, or with a code where the service offers one.
  • Google is ready after sign-in - the first sign-in turns on the Gmail and Calendar access you reviewed, so Google no longer reads Off.
  • App access after Save - an app's page shows the access you just chose.
  • Clearer refusals - when ChatGPT or Ollama Cloud refuses a request, the error says why. A chat or workflow set to a model ChatGPT no longer offers says so and asks you to choose another model.

Home And Conversations

  • A calmer Home - one column: a greeting that says the one thing that matters, the Ask box, Needs you only when something does, your recent work, and Today with only what's real. Home and the sidebar count the same things.
  • Maths - replies show formulas typeset, written with \( \), \[ \], $$ $$, or $…$ where it can't be a price. The typesetting comes with Row-Bot and loads only for a message with maths.
  • Deleting a chat - takes effect at once. Undo still works, and closing the window during Undo no longer brings the chat back.
  • Documents - asking about an empty library answers "No results" instead of an error about the embedding model.
  • Background work shows at once - a workflow run started on its schedule, a helper, or an approval raised in another chat appears in the sidebar, Home and Monitor straight away, without reloading. Monitor and Needs you also update at once when a channel, app or plugin starts or stops needing you.
  • No "reconnecting" notice for nothing - "Desktop features are reconnecting…" no longer appears after a reload or on Home; it shows only when something you asked for is waiting on it. Reloading a Home tab stays on it.
  • Fixes - the sidebar stops spinning when a reply has finished; Row-Bot no longer says an app isn't connected while your apps are still connecting; a conversation is never left blocked when a reply's end couldn't be recorded; a reply no longer leaves an empty "Paged content" row; Conversation details open with one tap after resizing between desktop and phone; a Settings switch made while another tool setting was saving no longer loses your other settings, and switching a tool no longer makes a window fail to connect for a moment or gets stuck "finishing your last change" on Windows.

Windows And macOS

  • One firewall question on Windows - with phone or LAN access on, Windows Firewall asks about Row-Bot once, not after every update. The server now runs from one place that updates keep.
  • Quit & Reopen on a Mac - Row-Bot opens again after "Quit & Reopen" (for example after allowing Screen Recording), and quitting Row-Bot quits all of it.
  • Row-Bot in the Dock - the Dock, Cmd-Tab and Force Quit show Row-Bot and its icon, not "Python 3.12".
  • Libraries with security fixes - aiohttp, certifi, mcp, Pillow 13, pypdf and the WhatsApp bridge's follow-redirects are updated to releases that fix published advisories.

Upgrade Notes

  • From 5.2.1 or the beta, in the background - Row-Bot downloads 5.3.0 and says Restart to update. From 5.1 or 5.0, read the 5.2.0 notes below: the move to 5.2 needs the full installer once.
  • Claude, set up again - the old Claude sign-in is gone. On first start its saved tokens are deleted, and a profile that used it says once: "Claude now works through Claude Code. Set it up again."
  • Auto may ask a little more - Auto now asks about anything that doesn't clearly match your request, and each review is a small call to the chat's model. Choose Hands-off for a chat or workflow that should never ask.
  • Workflow schedules - existing schedules keep their times: on first start they are given the computer's current timezone. Existing workflows keep no code folder and keep skipping runs missed while Row-Bot was closed; a one-time run missed while closed still runs once on start, as before.
  • Your X account - your existing X sign-in becomes your first account the next time Row-Bot reaches X (at start-up when X is on, when you press Check, or on the first X action); until then it shows as "Your X account · Signed in before Row-Bot 5.3". Nothing needs re-entering. To add another account, switch to it on x.com in your browser, then choose Add another account.
  • Computer use - it now uses your real mouse and keyboard while you watch, with a Stop bar on screen; you can stop it with Esc at any time.
  • Background commands - a job started with & inside a command now stops when that command finishes; an app a command opens keeps running as before. Ask Row-Bot to start a server instead.
  • Windows Firewall, once more - after updating to 5.3, Windows may ask once about Row-Bot Server in Row-Bot's versions folder; after that it doesn't ask again.
  • macOS - a Mac that updates in the background shows Row-Bot's icon in the Dock straight away. The name "Row-Bot", and the Quit & Reopen fix, arrive with the 5.3 DMG.

Known Issues

  • The first time on a Mac - when Row-Bot first works in your Documents folder, macOS asks for permission, and the command waits until you answer.
