  • I found this software really useful and created helpful timelines two or three years ago. After several attemps to create new timelines now and add events to old ones I stopped using the software. What's really annoying ist: whenever you add an event, which ist overlapping another one, it changes start and end dates of ALL other events. Changing them back will cause new overlaps which change dates of ALL others again. Due to automatic saving you can't go back to an intact version any more. So you'll never finish the job. This is boring. So one important advice: CREATE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR TIMELINE BEFORE WORKING ON IT! Please change this "feature" of involuntary shift of events ASAP. I'll come back and start beeing a fan again. Thanks a lot!
  • i want chinese, please~ this app is very good, thank you!
  • Nice Job, thank you ! This is pure SW without superficial design neurotix I love the very small tool icons ► leave BIG space to time line project ! Perfekt My Suggestions • print function with •• scale option to dispatch a time line on ie DIN A4 pages + set layout portrait or lanscape + set small margins etc ••• automatic save function each 2 min. ie •••• option to avoid sudden springs 1000 years away when clicking unintentionnaly in the white pace (my actual solution : set ctrl+alt+A) ••••• option to modify / complete localized language(s) in the local installation + export for sharing / next update •••••• import xls list of events would b nice (importing one ics after another is not productive enough) I am a happy user of TL !
  • There is so much that is promising about this project that it breaks my heart to give it a bad review. However, there is SO MUCH that is fundamentally wrong and stupid about this project that it just plain sucks. There is no way to view, import or edit you list of events in a list fashion... at at. That is FUNDAMENTAL to a project like this. Date entry defaults to BC... that is insane. The timeline does not offer a way to snap to the range of dates that the events lie in... totally stupid. The user interface is confusing and missing so many fundamentals that I don't even know where to begin. This project has been around for YEARS, why don't they have the fundamentals fixed by now? This program is like finding a sports car that has been built to look like a corvette, but is pulled by a donkey. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. Don't even bother posting a project like this, it wastes people's time.
  • I started using this application back in 2012 or 2013. I just updated it today after having not updated since I first downloaded it... AND WOW! It has grown! I use this app to track timelines in the fictional stories I'm writing and the ability to overlap timelines from other stories I'm writing in my universe is the SOLE reason I've been carting the old install from drive to drive for years. The updated app opened my almost decade old timeline without issues. Everything is there. I could cry with joy because I spent so much time on this and I'd be devastated without it. There are so many (new to me!) options that I feel like I have a lot I can change about my timeline. THANK YOU
  • The only free open source zoomable timeline application that I have been able to find that is not web-based. As such, it has worked very well for me so far doing my own life-line of events. What would be a useful facility in my opinion would be the ability to import timeline data from an existing database (eg Excel in my case) - eg a long list of dates with text fields for labels and optional fields to indicate category etc. It takes along time to input a large number of events manually and frustrating when you already have the data in digital format. Saying that, thank you for creating this application. The regular updates show that it is a 'current' project and one hopes the developer(s) read these comments.
  • Bit disappointed after reading the reviews, downloading, installing and running. Very basic with virtually no help, pictures displayed on home page bare no relationship to the Windows version I tried out. Okay for anyone wanting a basic timeline which contains text and possibly web links, other than that it needs more work done to make it useful.
  • Thank you.
  • I've been looking for a simple timeline software which is *not* web based and has *no* ridiculous limitations where if you want to enter more than 3 dates you have to pay an arm and a leg and sacrifice your firstborn. This is an excellent program. Important: Edit > Preferences > General > Open most recent timeline on startup - make sure to UNCHECK this box. (If it is checked, and you happen to delete, rename, or relocate your most recent file, next time you open the program you'll get a fatal error - took me a while to figure out) If a period event is very short, it will be shown as a point event. Don't panic, if you zoom in it will go back to being shown as a period event. (If you choose Edit > Preferences > General > Never show period events as point events, very short period events won't be shown at all unless you zoom in which is worse IMO.) Good to know: you can't put overlapping events in a container. They will align end to end so all the dates will be completely messed up. If you have lots of events (e.g. a timeline for a history exam with several hundred dates, lots of periods and eras), the program can become really slow, it's better to make several smaller files in that case. I wish it was possible to add more images to an event and format the text in the text bubbles. But it's still very good. Thank you so much for this software.
  • Thanks for the program under a free open source license!
  • Gut!
  • I love this program, but it is very difficult to use, for me. I've seen that I can increase the size of the onscreen text in various areas, but one place I can't is the Event flags. The only thing I can do there is change the colors. It would be great if we could change the font size, too. Some of us older folks don't have the eyesight we used to. Other than that, I love the program.
  • Lots of promise, but after using it for a few minutes it started displaying "Periods" as a single point on the timeline. Not ready for primetime but hoping it improves. By the way, it's not at all obvious how we should report bugs.
  • Destroys your information fairly often
  • Hope the writer can see this. The most missed feature is the font size change for the EVENT caption. Many fonts size can be changed but only the EVENT caption cannot, but EVENT is the most important one. Very strange logic.
  • The interface is very intuitive. I am finding the program easy to use and it has exactly the functions that I need. Still, it seems to need some work on stability. Whenever I return to it after a break, portions are unresponsive, for instance HELP ABOUT, on my otherwise very stable WIN7U system. This program/project shows great promise. Thank you.
  • Issue: after running the application, there prompt an error. $ python timeline.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "timeline.py", line 27, in <module> import wxversion ImportError: No module named wxversion How to fix this, please. Thanks for this application for monitoring events.
  • Help! All of a sudden I cannot open an important timeline file. The application returns an Error window. "Unable to read timeline data from (path)" and the error code "(path):2935:129: not well-formatted (invalid token)" Is there a way to recover the file?
  • THANK YOU!
  • Useful for teaching and learning - escpecially history.
  • Thanks for the excellent software, very easy to use. How can we customize it for projects using specialized time scales as needed to describe geology and life evolution (in millions of years), atomic processes (in tiny fractions of a second); etc. Keep up the good work. Best regards, Rafael
  • Just what I was looking for my project :) Lots of features, good controls and great versatility. And it's still being developed! Thanks.
  • Are you planning to add image support? Inserting a photo to the description would make it perfect for me.
  • I would like this project very much. But it is more wonderful if get richer textbox function. So we can view all events under table view (with name, type, category, status, date... column and can be filtered) and go to any event easily and quickly. We just click on an event, and it will navigate to this event in timeline view.
  • Good for tracking historic timelines - for research papers,non-fiction writing and novels. it's not meant to be a huge project management tool, it just does annotated timelines very well.
