  • This is a nice tool for fast quantification of biological probes. Above all It is easy to use. This ensures processing of gel images within seconds. We use this software in our lab mainly in order to evaluate PCR products. Using a standard DNA ladder we can also make a good estimation about the absolute amount of DNA in our probes. The sensitivity can be adjusted manually by changing the threshold value. The outfiles in pseudocolors are very nice. Using user defined gel band coordinates is possible but rather complicated. However, the automatic gel band detection works reliable providing that your input images are fairly well. Last but not least: IT'S FREE. This project deserves 5 stars. By the way: The company obviously plans to release a SpeedyQuant pro version in the near future. On request I was told that this will include a graphical userinterface and things like automatic ladder/standard detection and calculation of the absolute mass of the probe and many many more...
