SoundGeek Files

First public release.

SoundGeek cleans up a recording on your own machine. Drop in a file and it writes a cleaned copy beside it: background noise gone, mains hum gone, levels evened out. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is sent anywhere, so an interview or a meeting never leaves the computer it is on.

What it does

• Reads WAV, MP3, M4A, FLAC, OGG, Opus, WMA, AAC, MP4, MKV, MOV, AVI and WebM
• Removes steady background noise: hiss, a fan, traffic, room tone
• Finds and removes mains hum, 50 Hz or 60 Hz, measured rather than assumed
• Removes rumble under 60 Hz: desk thumps, wind, traffic
• Evens out loudness to a target you pick, with a look-ahead limiter holding the peaks
• Queues as many files as you like
• Reports what it found and what it changed, in numbers

Three ways to clean

Levels and hum only and Reduce the noise, keep the quality both give the file back at the sample rate and channel count it went in with. Remove the noise, speech only uses a speech model and is much the strongest, at the cost of coming back at 16 kHz mono. That is right for an interview or a voice note and wrong for music, and the app says so on screen rather than in the small print.

The model is half a megabyte, downloaded from the Model screen when you ask for it and never bundled. It is checked against an exact size and SHA-256 before it is kept.

MP3, M4A and the other compressed formats need ffmpeg installed to decode. WAV works either way.
