SootSound is a music player system for MSX computers with MoonSound or other compatible OPL4 sound cartridges. Creating and replaying music with the system requires the following components


* An XM-to-LTM module converter program (part of this Sourceforge project)
* An LTM replayer routine for MSX and MoonSound (part of this Sourceforge project)
* An XM music tracker such as MilkyTracker, running on PC/Windows, Linux or Mac. (NOT part of this Sourceforge project)
* The MoonSound ROM instrument package (0000_all_instruments.zip) which contains an XI instrument set made from the Yamaha YRW-801's sounds and a GeneralMIDI patch set found from a Linux sound driver (NOT part of this Sourceforge project)

The XM-to-LTM converter and LTM replayer program are part of this Sourceforge project.

  • Compose sample-based OPL4 music in MilkyTracker and other XM trackers
  • Use Yamaha ROM samples and your own custom samples in the same song
  • Utilize XM features like volume envelopes, with Yamaha and custom samples alike
  • Play your songs on real MSX machines with MoonSound and other OPL4 compatible cartridges
  • Tiny packed LTM module format on MSX, much smaller than the original XM data
