Sony RS422 VTR Controller Reviews

I am not at all pleased with this software so far! I have tried it on 2 different 64bit PC's, one running Windows 7 and the other running Windows 10. The software will load, run, open/close the port but when the port is open, it alway says 'No VTR'! Using a terminal program 'Coolterm.exe' I am able to send commands and have the PVW-2800 or UVW-1800 respond: For Instance...20h 01h 21h send the PLAY command and the tape plays. 20h 0Fh 2Fh EJECTs the tape. I have a 20+ year old Sony program that works an old 32bit PC that works great but can not install it onto a 64bit machine. I am using a USB to RS422 adaptor. One thing I have not tried yet is the suggested RS232 cable modified for the pseudo RS422 connection and connecting to the PCs Com1 port. Any other suggestions would be most welcome. I have just made and tested the suggested cable ...PC Com port to pseudo RS422 and it works. This makes me happy...but!!!! W(hy)TF!!! would the software not work with a USB to RS422 adaptor!!!???? when a simpler 25 year old program and also a simpler Terminal program worked Although I'm good to go now... I am still disappointed.
