Stylus/Handwriting Input Panel ( SHIP ) v 1.1.0-2 README
This project provides a desktop client to allow handwriting or on-screen keyboard entry.
The Stylus/Handwriting Input Panel (SHIP) is a system for gesture text entry for Tablet computers using an X11 User Interface.
Text may be entered from an on-screen keyboard or by handwriting – either printed or cursive handwriting - but the handwriting recogntion requires one of either the Ink2Text or the MSInkServer back-ends to provide the recognition service.
This release of the Stylus/Handwriting Input Panel java program is adapted to use the Ink2Text library if it is installed, and will fall back to using the previous XMLRPC connection to the MSInkServer if it's not. For most uses, the Ink2Text solution is best, as it runs in WINE, and does not use Windows at all. The Ink2Text project may be found on Sourceforge.
You must install Java 6 and the libjna-java shared library through the usual repositories or other means appropriate for your GNU/Linux/Unix distribution.
The SHIP application files are found in the "ship/client" folder, and the system should be started using the "ship/client/ship" script.
The provided "SHIP User Manual" explains the installation and use of the system.
I have not re-written the User Manual provided with this software yet, so it will still make reference to the MS Ink Server software. Please ignore those references in the manual - they will be removed.
This is Free Software. License details are included for each component.
