I just installed 7-Zip v4.65 on a new Window 7 Professional 64-bit system, and although it's working fine (when I run it manually), I don't get the 7-Zip context menus which I always see on other systems.
Neither when I right-click on .7z files, nor when I right-click on other files or folders to do 7Zip>Archive… etc.
I also tried reinstalling 7-Zip by running the installer as Administrator, but no difference :/
Furthermore I looked in the options (in 7zFM.exe) and all formats where already checked…
Any idea?

please try to right-click 7zFM.exe and choose "Run as Admin" and then make your settings. Note that this is true even if you were admin at installation-time, and note too, that this is needed only once (to make these settings).
It seems to be a funny little Win7 "feature" that even admins are not allowed to do everything.
Best regards

Thanks! Unfortunately, I tried, but I can't seem to get it working just yet..?
What I did is: right-click on 7zFM.exe, run as Admin, go to Settings, un-check the associated archive types (7z, zip, etc), Apply, then re-check them and Apply again (just to make sure it makes any changes), then I go to Settings and enable "Show system menu", Apply, and close 7Zip.
But when I right-click on any 7z or zip files in windows explorer, I still don't get a 7-Zip item in the context menu, nor do I get the usual 7-Zip features when rightclicking on folders etc..?
Windows 7 seems to be real nasty about this :(( Any other suggestions?
Thanks again for your help!
Oh, and regarding the beta… Are you sure it's stable/safe? I'm always a bit careful with running Beta software on my PC ;)

I use every beta (and nearly every alpha) Igor handed out since 2002 or so, without having any severe trouble. And out of the box I can only remember one serious bug that caused zip-files being corrupted. Yes, I'm sure it's save :-) At least safer than Windows or Flash-plugins ;-)
Best regards!

Hehe, well I guess it's safer than any Microsoft or Adobe product ;)
Anyway, I installed version 9.16 (as Admin), run 7zFM.exe again (as Admin), and I applied the context menu settings in the Settings "7-Zip" menu (disabled it, apply, enabled it, apply again, and then closed 7zip)
But unfortunately…. it still doesn't show up in my shell context menu :(
If you have any other idea what could be causing this, please let me know. I'm not using any strange policy settings or anti virus protection or whatever, this is just a plain 'n simple freshly installed Windows 7 system. I really hope I can still use the 7-Zip right-click stuff somehow…
Again thanks a lot for your help!

Hey, guess what!! No, I was using the 32-bit version (I guess I only saw "exe" or "msi" and blindly chose exe…) but I tried the 64-bit and everything works fine now!
Great, I really appreciate that, thanks a lot!!

Do you use x64 version of 7-Zip?
