Most of this release you will feel rather than see.

The menu on your phone is something you can drag. Before, it was either there or it wasn't — it appeared, and tapping outside made it vanish. Now you can pull it in and push it away with your finger, and it stays under your thumb the whole way. Flick it and it goes; catch it while it's still moving and it follows you back. Push it past the edge and it resists instead of stopping dead, so you can feel that there's nothing more that way.

Buttons react the moment you press them, not when you let go. On a phone that was the difference between an app that felt asleep and one that answers. Along with it went the small delay every mobile browser adds to a tap while it waits to see whether you meant to zoom — nothing here zooms, so the wait bought nothing.

If you've asked your phone or computer for less motion, the app now listens. Looping decoration stops, things fade into place instead of sliding, and the chat jumps to the newest message instead of scrolling to it. Recording indicators and anything else that tells you what's happening stay — the point is to stop the movement, not the information. The same goes for the system settings for reduced transparency and higher contrast, which the app previously ignored: frosted panels become solid, and edges get drawn properly.

Also in this release

• Headings are set more tightly and small print more openly, the way type is meant to change shape as it changes size. Text over blurred panels is a little heavier so it stays readable against whatever is moving behind it.
• The bar at the top of the page is a thicker piece of glass, and it now materialises as you scroll rather than simply fading in.
• Controls no longer stay stuck in a highlighted state after you tap them on a touchscreen.
• Keyboard focus is visible everywhere.
• The desktop download buttons now offer 0.5.0, the release that adds group chats. Linux gained .deb and .rpm packages alongside the AppImage the button hands you.
