There are many online storage services, for example Dropbox. While these services claim to be secure, they should not be relied upon for security or reliability. SDFS aims to address this issue by providing a filesystem-like interface while encrypting and storing data redundantly in many online storage accounts. In the first alpha early release(0.0.0) we are planning to support dropbox only but if you want support for other services, or if you are a developer who wants to develop support for a certain service, please file a ticket or post a discussion topic.

Features

  • Provider-independent security. If one of your storage accounts get compromised, or if your government allows police to impose digital surveillance, your data will still only be accessible to you.
  • Redundancy. If you configured the redundancy level to larger than 1, and one of your storage accounts get deleted or is unavailable, all your data will still be available.
  • Scalability. You can add as many storage accounts to a SDFS filesystem as you want. This effectively bypasses the services' limits.
  • Speed. Data is stored in fixed-sized units called chunks, and related data are grouped together into one chunk. This avoids unnecessary fragmentation of filesystem structures.
