Speed first: big brushes on dense meshes take a third less time per frame, trail the pen by half as far and no longer pause when you lift it. Also from your reports: a right click opens the QuickMenu (#22), dynamic topology with symmetry remeshes both sides of an asymmetric mesh (#23) and the orthographic view shades correctly (#24).

Added

  • A right click on the canvas opens the QuickMenu under the cursor, as in ZBrush (#22). Pressed and let go without moving more than 4 px, beside the model or on it; the view waits until the press moves past that, so a click never nudges it, and a right drag turns, pans or zooms as before (by everything it moved, nothing lost). A pen button set to Right click works the same; SDL's own mouse click for another pen button doesn't open it. On by default in every input style (a right click without a drag did nothing before); Preferences > Input > Right click opens the QuickMenu turns it off (rightClickQuickMenu in ui.json). UI test right_click_menu (mouse, tremble, drag, pen button, Blender style, preference off).

Changed

  • Large brushes on dense meshes are faster and stay closer to the pointer. Measured on a 21M-triangle sphere with a 200 px brush (--measure-stroke 3,200, M1 Pro):
0.9.6 Now
Frame 98 ms 65 ms
Brush behind the pointer, mean / worst 293 / 544 px 137 / 189 px
Press to first dab on screen 361 ms 157 ms
Release 990 ms 67-130 ms

The 33M-triangle benchmark's large Standard dab goes from 44.6 to 41.8 ms; the other rows are unchanged.

  • The stroke queue keeps about 50 ms of dabs, at least 4 (it kept at least 24: a second of work behind the pointer at 21M, all placed on release).
  • The BVH refit of a big dab recomputes the ancestors of its leaves in parallel (13 ms on one thread before).
  • A dab's normals are recomputed for the corners of the BVH leaves its queries listed instead of every moved vertex's neighbour ring (7 ms a dab on levels made by Divide).
  • The GPU upload sends the changed blocks until three quarters of the mesh changed (it re-sent the whole mesh above a quarter: 78 ms a frame against 14-30), and finds them in parallel (3.7 -> 0.4 ms).
  • Starting a stroke no longer re-uploads the whole mesh when there are no LODs.

Fixed

  • The orthographic view (Numpad 5) shaded MatCaps and the lights as if inside out (#24): the shader worked out each pixel's view ray as in a perspective view, which in an orthographic one tilted it far off the axis towards the edges. An orthographic view now gives every pixel the axis; flat shading turns its facets towards the viewer by that ray too (the direction from the eye, which an orthographic view can put inside the model, turned them away). UI test ortho_shading (a new luma@X,Y value reads the last screenshot): the same sphere in both views matches within 1 brightness level, where 0.9.6 was up to 38 off.
  • Dynamic topology with symmetry remeshes the mirrored side of a model whose sides aren't mirrored polygon for polygon (#23; a QRemeshed head in the report). Splits, collapses and flips are found under the brush and done on the mirror images of the same edges; without images (nothing to pair the vertices with) the other side only moved and kept its coarse triangles: a stroke left 2,199 triangles along its path and 33 along its mirror image. An edge under a mirror image of the brush whose image on the brush's side is missing is now remeshed where it is (2,260 there). Symmetric meshes still get exactly mirrored topology (the 1M dynamic topology benchmark's times are unchanged). Test dyntopo_symmetry_remeshes_both_sides_of_an_asymmetric_mesh (a turned sphere, then random strokes with X and Z symmetry, valid after every dab, undone exactly).

New here? install/ explains which file to pick, or install with one command: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/islandmed/SculptForge/main/install/install.sh | sh (macOS / Linux), irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/islandmed/SculptForge/main/install/install.ps1 | iex (Windows PowerShell). Each file is also attached without its version number (e.g. SculptForge-macos.dmg) so links to releases/latest/download/... always get the newest build.
