Removed

  • The local API for other programs and its mesh_read / mesh_set_positions commands (added in 0.10.1, off by default). SculptForge no longer listens on any port for other programs.

Changed

  • Predictive strokes stay an experiment, off by default (Preferences > Performance): a surface-cursor race that could change a stroke is fixed, but a stroke is not yet identical to one placed without them in every run.
  • Draft strokes are no longer chosen by any hardware tier or on battery (they measured no faster and aren't yet identical to a full stroke); the Draft Strokes setting still turns them on.

Added

  • Insert on the model (#34): the drag's direction also turns the inserted shape about the surface normal.

Fixed

  • Security: the timelapse, proof-mode and --record video exports passed the file name to ffmpeg's command line in double quotes, so a crafted name (for example a project called x$(...)) could run a command. Names are now quoted so nothing in them is interpreted (and refused on Windows when they contain shell characters).
  • The brush ring that follows the surface (#25) read the mesh while a predictive stroke's thread was changing it, which could change where that stroke's dabs landed; it now shows the flat ring during such strokes.

Added

  • QRemesh 2, the new default quad retopology (Tool > Remesh > QRemesh, also under Tool > Geometry; qremesh method=v2). The layout is solved over the whole model at once as an integer grid: a smooth cross field that follows the principal curvature (smoothed over about one quad) and the feature lines, then a seamless parametrization whose grid lines are the edge loops, with feature lines and guides on grid lines and the poles on grid points, extracted at the target density. Poles appear only where the form needs them (a sphere gets exactly eight, a box one per corner) and loops run unbroken; open QRemesh Guides are exact edge loops; hard edges and polygroup borders (Keep Groups) are kept on their exact place; polypaint density adds the pole pairs a change of density needs; symmetry mirrors the field and the result exactly; the result is deterministic. Loop-aware relaxation lets vertices slide along loops on ridges but not off them. Against the legacy method on the lion scan, the ICT head, a creature sculpted from a sphere and a hard-surface part at 2k / 5k / 10k quads: a quarter to a fiftieth of the poles at the same distance to the sculpt (lion 5k: 1,028 → 199 poles, corners 18.2° → 7.9° off square; ICT head 5k: 511 → 114; creature 10k: 308 → 37; a 1.3M-triangle sculpt at 10k: 401 → 8; boxes: one pole per corner and 0.000% distance). The full table is in the guide (Quad retopology > How it works). A 1.3M-triangle sculpt takes about 4 s to 5,000 quads.
  • Quality report after QRemesh, in the status line, the QRemesh panel and the qremesh command's message: poles (by valence), how far quad corners are from square, and the distance to the sculpt (mean and Hausdorff). quality=false skips the measuring.
  • Dense sculpts are decimated in parallel blocks to a working resolution first. A sculpted sphere at 2k / 5k / 10k quads (M1 Pro, 10 cores, shared with other jobs): 1.3M triangles 3.1-6.4 s (peak 0.36 GB), 5.2M 6.6-8.6 s (1.3 GB), 21M about 20 s (4.7 GB); eight poles each time. The quality report adds a few seconds at 21M.
  • Tests: test_qremesh2.cpp (eight poles on a sphere, determinism, exact symmetry, hard edges and groups, the command); SF_QREMESH_BENCH=<dir> runs the comparison with the legacy method and writes the results as OBJ, SF_BENCH_LIMITS=1 times 1.3M / 5.2M / 21M-triangle sculpts with their peak memory.

Changed

  • Make sculptable still remeshes with the legacy method for now (QRemesh 2 flattened part of a thin handle on x86).
  • The 0.9 QRemesh is kept as Method > Legacy (qremesh method=legacy). Closed QRemesh Guide loops (round an eye, or across the symmetry plane) still use it for that piece for now, and a piece QRemesh 2 can't do cleanly falls back to it; the status line says so.

New here? install/ explains which file to pick, or install with one command: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/islandmed/SculptForge/main/install/install.sh | sh (macOS / Linux), irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/islandmed/SculptForge/main/install/install.ps1 | iex (Windows PowerShell). Each file is also attached without its version number (e.g. SculptForge-macos.dmg) so links to releases/latest/download/... always get the newest build.
