  • My favourite chess database manager. I've been a SCID user for a couple of decades now, and SCID vs PC has been my go-to fork for the last years. Solid, fast, stable, full of features and actively maintained. You just can't go wrong with this one. Note that the number of features can be a bit overwhelming for new users, so you'll just need to learn this one as you go along, but it is most certainly worth it.
  • Absolutely Excellent!! I have use Scid vs PC for more than 4 years now and I have installed it both on Windows and Linux systems. I have found it easy to install and use. My personal database has more than 7.5 million games plus roughly 200,000 problems and endgame studies. I routinely import files from various sources into Scid vs PC and have found it very easy to do. Database searches from board setup, opening training, opening reports and an ever ready chess pal to play against make it an excellent tool. I own a copy of Chess base which I put away permanently after installing this product years ago. Scid vs PC is simply the best.
  • Wonderful product with responsive maintainer!
  • The best free software chess database.
  • The best free chess software out there and simply a must-have for any amateur player.
  • As far as I know the best tool for the beginning and advanced chess player who wants to improve. I want to emphasize the powerful mask option in the tree window. I use this for documenting my opening repertoire. I don't try to learn opening moves by heart, instead I put a note on the move or position in order to review (and eventually modify) it during my game analysis. I load the mask to compare the postition with my own game. Secondary, I like the tablebase window using the Nalimov tablebases for training endgames with 5 men on the board.
  • Very good chess analysis suite. It helps you to learn chess playing in depth.
  • This chess analysis flat out rocks. It works great. It's not as intuitive as commercial ones but once you learn it you got it. Also, the help documentation and index really works. Lastly they keep making enhancements so as of today 8/25/2018 this is a live project! Nice job team!
  • Wonderful program! Thank you!!
  • Works smoothly with my DGT chess board on Mac Sierra.
  • I love this software. My options were transferred by copy and paste from the bin/config folder of the older version. So I have photos, multiple engines, databases, my Novag Citrine connected, and more. This software has a huge feature list.
  • .
  • The 'rewritten' gamelist has no filtering like Scid has. Thats not useful. Also Scid, like Chessbase has a click-target-square move enter feature and Scid vs PC has not. Misses a few other features Scid has. Therefore it has fixed the nasty bugs known from Scid on Windows. But without the above two features i can develop no real workflow with it.
  • I'm using Scid vs. PC whenever it comes to computer chess, it's just the best chess software out there. What I like the most is that it has a lot of functions, it's universal. The only 2 things I dislike is: 1. twin detection consumes too much disk IO on large databases. 2. GUI on Windows doesn't fit to modern Windows GUI's Thank you for such great project!
  • Great
  • A Very good tool
  • SCIDVSPC is a fork of the Shane's chess database. This version, however, is well maintained and features many improvements over the old SCID program, which has been sadly neglected. SCIDVSPC is a serious contender against Chessbase, a commercial chess database. It works flawlessly under Linux and, I would venture, under Windows and Mac. Highly recommended for all serious chess players!

  • Good job! Simple to use. Thanks!
  • I can't be certain that it works on Windows 7 for a simple klutzy non-geeky chess-player like me. Should I stay away - or does it have sufficient f o ru m s a n d "help!"?
  • good job
  • This is a great program. The AI is well developed an has bunches of features...
