SchilliX Files

		This is SchilliX-0.5.2

SchilliX is an OpenSolaris based UNIX Live CD and distribution 
for the X86, AMD64 and EM64T architectures.
The current release is based on Solaris 11 (Nevada) Build 35.

	NOTE: Booting the Live CD will not change anything on your system!

To create a bootable CD do the following:

1)	Download the ISO image:

	# wget ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/schillix/SchilliX-0.5.1.iso.bz2

2)	unpack the ISO:

	# bzip2 -d SchilliX-0.5.1.iso.bz2

3)	Write the CD:

	# cdrecord dev=b,t,l -v -dao SchilliX-0.5.1.iso

	Replace dev=b,t,l with the actual values for SCSI Bus #,
	SCSI Target id, and Lun (Lun is 0) on your system.


The following boot options exist:

-	SchilliX CD boot Full Deutsch     (needs 256 MB RAM)

	A 62 MB Ramdisk with '/' is loaded and '/usr' is mounted 
	from CD later. Your system needs at least 256MB RAM to do
	this and it is a bit slow to start up.


-	SchilliX CD boot Full amd64 Deutsch     (needs 320 MB RAM)

	A 102 MB Ramdisk with '/' is loaded and '/usr' is mounted 
	from CD later. Your system needs at least 320MB RAM to do
	this and it is a bit slow to start up.

	This loads a system that includes all 32 & 64 bit kernel
	binaries.


-	SchilliX CD boot ramd only Deutsch (needs 512 MB RAM)

	A 192 MB Ramdisk with the full FS is loaded.
	Your system needs at least 512 MB RAM to do this and
	it is faster then the first two options.

	After the boot has completed, you may remove the CD
	by calling "eject cd".


-	Memtest X86

	Executes Memtest-86 v3.2

If you would like to use a different KBD layout, edit the grub command
line and modify the "-B kbd-type=German" boot option.


Once your system has been started using the CD and has reached the login
prompt, login as user "root", no password is needed.


If you would like to compile software directly from the Live CD,
perform the following steps after doing a "full" boot:

-	mkdir /opt/gcc-3.4.3

-	mount -F lofs -O /.cdrom/opt/gcc-3.4.3 /opt/gcc-3.4.3

-	Add /usr/sps/bin, /usr/sfw/bin and /usr/ccs/bin to your PATH

-	Enjoy compiling.....


Known Bugs:

-	The aperture driver (needed to run X) does not yet work on a 64 bit kernel

The following patches have been applied, see
ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/schillix/patches/ for the exact modifications made:


-	lseek(f, off, SEEK_HOLE) returns more orthogonal error codes

-	Allow comment in /etc/minor_perm

The libm sources are the sources for the libm replacement that was needed for
SchilliX-0.1 ... SchilliX-0.2.2. It will help the Solaris PPC port as long as
Sun does not publish the libm Sources under an Open Source license.
