The "SAW 6.msi" is the complete installer for SAW version 6. It is advisable to uninstall any previous versions before installing this.
This update to SAW has been done with EU funding as part of the AEGIS project.
This version is functionally complete, although the help has not yet been updated. This version introduces a number of minor updates,
and in addition some significant changes:
- SAW has been updated throughout to work with Unicode text
- it has been updated to work correctly on the Windows Vista and Windows 7
- SAW now has its own integrated word prediction engine ("Blade"). The old engines supported by SAW 5 will still work in theory,
but in practice will be problematic due to changes in Windows over the years.
- SAW can request images from a locally installed Concept coding framework server (see http://www.conceptcoding.org/)
- SAW has some capability to generate automatic selection sets, although this should be considered rather experimental still.
- There are some additions to the presentation of elements within the selection set, including transparent items and extra thick borders
- There is a new dwell select with averaging input option, in addition to the standard dwell select, which is intended for input method such as eye gaze
which can have a significant amount of noise in the pointer positioning
- A few new script command such as sending keys slowly and docking the target window beside the SAW window
