  • I still have a working xfce version from 2019 on a spare laptop that I still use occasionally because it is so fast and stable but have been unable update it or to successfully install any working, up to date version since last year - Is this a dead distro now...?
  • I'm lovin 'it! This distro is my main one that has worked best for me on my potato pc :DD (intel atom 1.8ghz with 2 gb ram). It is fast and very comfortable and has a lot of style, The only thing is that when I install it does not matter what options I put in the installer it always appears as in the live version but I was able to install everything later with package manager

  • I just installed Salient (KDE) onto an SD card in a spare laptop to check it out. It went very smoothly, and I especially liked the guidance with the manual partitioning . I was surprised to see an anonymous access "Public" file share open on the machine while browsing the LAN from another computer, however. I don't necessarily mind, but I would have liked to have been informed. Looking forward to seeing how well the rolling releases work!
  • I want to try how it will be downloaded immediately..I'm very impressed...I will unsubscribe later,I am very interested in this distribution
  • Ive tried mint, Ubuntu, Manjaro, and Mx Linux and few others .But I love Salient os runs smooth no hiccups. when trying to run games in lutris .Disable game mode if the game doesn't want to run. Thank you
  • I would love to see hardware RAID support added to every non-windows OS, right now it's hard to add hardware raid support by user self.
  • I'm a bit of a noob in the world of linux. I don't know code (sorry sourceforge), I look up all my guides online, and I still have a Windows partition just in case. But let me tell you a few things about SalientOS: 1. It was my first time using a distribution based on Arch. I couldn't have picked a better fork to do that. Now I love it. 2. This is the first distribution (I'm a hopper) that has made me want to donate to make sure that it continues and goes to some amazing places. 3. GAMES!!! Devs, keep it up, and you'll be one of the biggest distributions!
  • Five stars. Relatively straight forward, pre-configured Arch Linux ISO. Recommend sticking to XFCE or KDE - the i3 variant is a little green still. Has many toys right out of the "install box," inlcuding Steam, Lutris, Gimp, and OBS. Beyond being a usable distro, I also found value personally is learning how it was pieced together to bring a relatively simple install, with the tools you need, and none of the stuff you don't.
  • Only installed today but very impressed so far. I've been distro-hopping like mad for the past few weeks and decided to settle on Manjaro Gnome yesterday. Unfortunately the print service was down and nothing I tried would solve this. Stumbled across Salient by chance and decided to give it a go. I have a soft spot for XFCE and like Arch-based distros, and this is the pefect blend of the two. Installed on a HP Pavilion G Series laptop flawlessly. Everything just works. Setting up wireless printing was a breeze. The implementation of XFCE is very stylish and the collection of wallpapers is awesome. I've only had to install Libre Office, pCloud and Opera to have the system how I like it. Highly recommended. I think my distro-hopping days are over for the foreseeable future!
  • Silent Robot did a bang up job on this distro, its got it all! I barely had to setup much!

  • Nvidia driver installed? Check. Amdgpu driver installed? Check. Absolutely worry-free gaming! ------------------------------------- This a new review by me, to give big respect to silent-robot for his dedication to this amazing distro. Hands-down, the easiest and sleekest Linux distro that you could ever get for the sake to straight-away gaming or multimedia! This distro is a must-try!!! Many thanks to silent-robot for recently updating this magnificent distro!

  • Downloaded and installed the new ISO today, (xfce), and many of the issues I encountered in the past are amended. Make no mistake, this OS is optimized for gaming and media right from the installation and I would recommend it to anybody who is searching for a flawless Arch Linux experience. Some things to note, though. On a 144hz monitor, the compositor might be buggy and render your gaming experience inconsistent. This is because you must refresh the compositor after selecting your refresh rate. Also, I am still continuing to have difficulties keeping my digital vibrance settings upon reboot. I think this is an issue with the nvidia settings, not the OS. If anybody has a solution to this, I would be very thankful.

  • after looking at the live usb version of salient os v19.07 i decided to install it to a hd (not the nvidia version). what i like: the way the xfce panels are implemented. clever. the graphics. gorgeous. arch base: rolling. what was bothersome: i wanted to install it to just one partition (replacing an unsed partition); and, i specificly chose not to install the grub boot loader. i ended up with salient os being on 3 partitions (boot/root/home) instead of one. it did not give me the choice of making root/boot/home partitions. wishes: since it's geared toward multimedia & gaming, maybe an option to use, install the liquorix kernel (liquorix.net), with some type of kernel switching program similar to manjaro's. thank you.

  • Both Xfce and Plasma are excellent actually i m dual booting those two. I think that soon i vill format hard drive and install/restore only Plasma. Xfce was love on the first sight but with Plasma, i was blown away, like a dream came true with a solution to Dolphin administrative restrictions., which were a pain in the a** and reason to never fully accept KDE. Now i can fully enjoy KDE on the awesome Arch-based system working like a "smooth operator" perfectly. Absolutely perfectly, even better than KDE NEON!! For me, Salient OS is a serious competitor for Manjaro and it has fantastic potential and i think if more people start help to maintain and develop it can definitely become a huge project. I hope so, this is the gift to humanity. The absolutely fantastic OS for me it is already the BESt in 2019. better than Manjaro plasma and Xfce!!!!!

  • I've been testing Salient OS over the past few updates, and with the latest (2019.04.21 Plasma) release decided to switch my daily driver from Manjaro KDE to Salient OS. It's the first time I've jumped on a beta platform as my daily, and I must say I have no regrets. It is full-featured and beautifully themed. I'm not even a gamer but made the switch because it's that good. In fact the only modifications I've made to the theme (of course everyone's tastes are different) were to change colors to Arc Dark and cursors to Breeze. That, plus adding a few programs I use plus enabling the AUR repository and I'm good to go. Brilliant!

  • Very good design the applications that normally people use would like to see an installer of NVIDIA drives and a store of applications in the Deepin style and GNOME interface

  • Salient OS offers a user friendly desktop computing experience suitable for home users, gamers and multimedia enthusiasts. You get everything you need to accomplish most essential tasks right out of the box. Salient offers an elegant design which is easy to customize. Calamares is included for easy deployment of the OS to disk. Moreover, installing new packages from either the repositories or the AUR is simple with Pamac, a graphical software center.

  • This is a brilliant piece of software. I love XFCE and it is dark so I can use it out of the box. I downloaded the readme file and followed it for ease. It is really fast and doesn't heat up my laptop like the others. Thanks for creating this SR!
