RMMZit 0.7.1 — program updates, update rings, restarts with a deadline and maintenance windows.
New
- Program updates (policy part): updates the installed programs that winget knows and, if chosen, those installed with Chocolatey — once on each chosen day at a chosen hour, or in the maintenance window. A Do not update list keeps programs as they are (package IDs or parts of names). Each run shows under the device's Activity with how many programs were updated, failed, skipped (programs winget cannot update, such as Microsoft Edge, which updates itself) or still wait.
- Update rings: Windows Update and program updates can wait a number of days after the server first saw an update or a new version. Give test computers a policy with 0 days and the others one with, for example, 7 days. Defender definitions never wait.
- Restart with a deadline: besides never and 5 minutes after the installation, a policy can ask the user: the RMMZit icon asks the signed-in user to restart (again every 4 hours), and after the deadline the server restarts the computer with a 10-minute notice. The device's Policy tab shows a pending restart and its deadline.
- Maintenance windows (policy part): weekly time spans when devices may be busy. Windows updates and program updates can run in the maintenance window, restarts past their deadline wait for a window, and optionally no new alerts open during a window.
Fixed
- After the restart that updates needed, the agent scans Windows Update at once, so the console no longer shows a pending restart for up to 12 hours.
- The policy editor showed the former server settings instead of the built-in values for new parts.
Updating
Settings → RMMZit updates installs 0.7.1 from GitHub. Agents update themselves (Settings → Agent updates); restart requests need agents 0.7.1.
