NewsHound 1.52 -- 14 December 2010 ---------------------------------- The release of NewsHound 1.52 adds an option to turn off use of the NEWGROUPS command. The command fetches details of new groups added to the news server since the last fetch, and is used to update the local groups list. However, some servers no longer support the command; on these, the command can now be disabled at the expense of no longer receiving details of which groups have been added to the news feed. An existing copy of NewsHound can be updated by copying the version from the release archive over the previously installed copy with the Filer's Force option on and the Newer option off. This should update the application while leaving your settings and group details intact. By default, NewsHound 1.52 behaves in the same way as previous versions: anyone experiencing problems with the NEWGROUPS command will have to explicitly turn it off. Click Menu over NewsHound's window or iconbar icon, and select "Configure...". On the NNTP tab of the Choices window, turn off the "Fetch NEWGROUPS" option, then click "Save" to store the new settings. Please read NewsHound's manual, accessible from its menu, for more details about its use. Steve Fryatt info@stevefryatt.org.uk
