Mister FPGA / RPCEmu Blank ADF And HDF Disks for Acorn / RISCOS Systems

I had difficulty finding these on the internet, and a number of people found similar problems in forums, so it's included here.

Description of Files

  • Found herewith is a blank Acorn / Riscos ADF 800K Floppy Drive, freshly formatted.
  • Also herewith is a blank Acorn / Riscos HDF 500MB file. Unfortunately I don't know the disc geometry, so do not attempt to format it.

These files are tested working in both RPCEmu as well as Mister FPGA running riscos 3.10 + 3.11.

The HDF has the geometry: Sectors: 63 Heads: 16 Cylinders: 1024

There's no software on these discs, everything on them has been erased for the purposes of avoiding violating copyright law and to get a good compression ratio.

Useful Information

  • RPCemu is a good way to copy data over from the host filesystem onto a HDF (named hd4.hdf on host file system) or on ADF format.
  • A utility called MkImg.exe can be used to create blank ADF floppy disks using the command:

./MkImg.exe Blank-800.adf ./EmptyDir -fs adfs -p -s 800K -t Blank

(Run from MobaXterm)

Drives can be created and formatted within "Arculator" acorn emulator. Note that the HForm binary provided in the RISCOS 3.x application disk 2, will not format these drives inside of Arculator or RPCEmu. A different formatting tool for inside Arculator or RPCEmu called !Hform, available from here:

https://b-em.bbcmicro.com/arculator/download.html

Will format these virtual disks under these emulators, then these HDF files can be relocated onto the MicroSD card on the Mister FPGA, and these files go into the Games/Archie directory.
