I am using the C# api for QuickFix and have found it to be reliable, performant, and compliant with the FIX spec. The configuration can be a little tricky -- the biggest problem being that the two brokers that I connect to don't follow the FIX spec very well, and I had to disable much of the checking that QuickFix does by default.
