README: Protospacer Workbench Databases
Note
Some databases, such as the human database, are too large to be hosted correctly by Sourceforge. These databases have slightly different installation instructions, which can be found in their respective folders.

About
Protospacer WB databases are file-based and grow dynamically over time, through use. To begin with, each database contains the necessary indices to find potential target sites for guide-RNAs. This is why databases vary in size, and for large genomes can actually be rather big. The file-based system has many advantages, including being able to share or sync your results easily with colleagues. However, because the database grows through usage, please make sure to monitor your systems storage capacity. You can easily free up disk space by deleting folders in the "Results" directory of the database. However, if you do this, you will have to recalculate the results (which will take time).
Minimum system requirements
The same databases can be openned from any version of Protospacer WB.
Installation
- Download the compressed database from the Sourceforge project page: https://sourceforge.net/projects/protospacerwb/.
- Unpack the downloaded file to the "Data" directory of Protospacer WB.
- Run ProtospacerWB, if you see the database listed under "Available databases" then it was correctly installed.
- Double-click the database to open it.
- Click on the information tab to view details about the contents of the database.
