To use the windows PlateData app simply download the .zip file, extract to your desired location and run the PlateApp.exe file found inside.

The source code versions of PlateData require both python and the Python Imaging Library (PIL) are installed. Both are avaliable to download for free:

Python:
http://www.python.org/download/

PIL:
http://www.pythonware.com/products/pil/

BEWARE - PIL only comes with a 32bit installer so it will not work with a 64bit installation of python. There is a work around but it requires tinkering with registry keys.

The unstable builds are buggy. Known bugs are below:

* After using the software for a short while the program can break. The menu bar no longer works and clicking can make random changes to your PlateData project. It has not been observed to cause data to save though, so you should be able to return to your old save file with problem. The best way round this currently is to save often. The program can still be closed by closing the python terminal.
