For me PlantUML is the ONE UML tool, because it keeps my mind free for the real problems instead of drawing "nice pictures" and rearrange them a thousand times.

1)does not adhere to uml standards of IEEE or OMG
---- example list the class twice makes it appear its another class
2)no gui interface, yet a jar is provided, wasting user time to run jar when in fact they need to create a text file, not many have root access to create scripts
3) no editing, with text, highlights etc

I am using this for state transition diagrams, to help me remember how my code is supposed to work. Since the diagram is compiled from a text file, I can see the changes between diagram versions, in version control. Before, I was using a GUI tool with some binary data format; the version control system could tell me that my diagram had changed, but was it correcting a typo or radically changing the sequence? It was very difficult/impossible to tell. Now it's just comparing two versions of a text file, so I can see the changes right away. When I had a problem, I got an answer quickly on the forum that fixed it.

I love it! I still have to learn more about it, therefore my evaluation is a little "partial", but as far as I have used it my impression is positive! I love constructing blocks, diagrams, seq diagrams, etc without having to go crazy drawing them, and just describe them textually.

UML diagrams can be generated automatically from a special code. It is unique project!

Simply Amazing

This is how UML tools should have been from the beginning.

Revolution in the UML design world. You now can write specifications with UML code embedded into a ODT/Word document... Changed the way we work.

Très facile à prendre en main, la documentation est bien faite et un résultat immédiat et de bonne qualité!

It is something, which I was looking for. It is supercool. But - now word template being reported to have virus.

Sorry don't know how to submit a bug, but I have a system of predefined macros (which call other macros) which I have built up and use. Build 8031 broke them! What has changed in this build from that perspective?

PlantUML best UML tool. Very simple language.

great app! very very very useful

This is one of the most amazing projects I've seen so far - the simplicity of the modeling language paired with the seemingly infinite possibilities to embed the results is just mind-blowing.

PlantUML embedded within MS Word documents make for a very powerful tool. I just copied the contents of the PlantUML_V007 into my MS Word Template, assigned the macro to a button on the toolbar and it works fantastically well. Updating technical diagrams in documents has never been so easy.

I use plantuml with combination in GNU Emacs org-mode for writing technical documentation. I cannot wish for a better tools.

I just love this tool to death! I use it as a Confluence plugin. It allows me to put really nice professional looking diagrams and drawings in my technical designs. Really easy and quick! Couldn't miss it.

I like the simple textual description language, I wish it can be standardized one day.

Developer responds quickly to suggestions. This project is very alive and useful. Syntax is getting a bit inconsistent, however, due to rapid growth. UML is not checked for consistency, but this is meant to be an agile documentation tool, not a code generator.

Kicks a**. Could use better layouts in component and class diagrams (although this is handled automatically by graphviz).

Great project, thanks a ton for posting

Thanks for working on this tool, excellent job.

Exactly what I was looking for intuitive syntax and command line based. Thanks!

I use this software. Thank you for your work.
