Content: 1. install on windows 2. install on linux 3. build on linux 4. CHANGELOG ####################################################################### # install on windows systems: # ####################################################################### download the executable (prefer the 64 bit version), install and run You will need to have the current updates installed (i.e. the .NET framework updates) ####################################################################### # install on linux systems: # ####################################################################### PERFORMANCE HINT: The distributions' Qt multimedia packages might no be hardware accelleration optimized. If video viewing with pivot is important for you, you might want to compile and install your own Qt 5! (try the version your system already has installed) ----------------------- Ubuntu (tested with Ubuntu 15.04 (32/64bit): 1. install pre-requisites (most of them should already be installed): sudo apt-get install libqt5multimediawidgets5 \ libqt5multimedia5-plugins qt5-image-formats-plugins - some of the packages are optional, without them pivot won't be able to read all media/image files: qt5-image-formats-plugins libqt5multimedia5-plugins - HINT: Qt for linux is still based on gstreamer-0.10. If you want pivot to be able to read modern video formats, you should try to install the gstreamer-0.10-ffmpeg package. However this is not distributed with some distributions. But there are workarounds, for instance see http://askubuntu.com/a/575888 (I have tested it successfully but I do not take responsibility of this possibility doing any harm to your system - this is only a suggestion and 'pivot' doesn't require this package.) 2. installation: sudo dpkg -i your_package_file.deb 3. run either with your GUI or on the terminal type: pivot ----------------------- Fedora (tested with Fedora 22.3 (32/64 bit): 1. pre-requisites 2. installation ####################################################################### # build on linux systems: # ####################################################################### 1. get the development dependencies: e.g. for Ubuntu (15.04): sudo apt-get install qttools5-dev-tools qttools5-dev qtbase5-dev \ libqt5svg5-dev libqt5opengl5-dev qtmultimedia5-dev \ libraw-dev libexif-dev cmake for Fedora (22): sudo dnf install cmake gcc gcc-c++ qt5-qtbase-devel qt5-qttools-devel \ qt5-qtx11extras-devel qt5-qtmultimedia-devel LibRaw-devel \ libexif-devel qt5-qtsvg-devel 2. build cd somewhere mkdir build cd build cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=release path/to/pivot.x.y.z/pivot make (make install) -------------------------------------- 2015-10-16; by Dominik Rueß; FEATURES: - removed FreeImage dependency - added libraw dependency for direct handling of RAW camera files - implemented better threading (pre-loading) model of image viewer - embedded thumbnails will now be rotated according to given EXIF or RAW tags - while image viewer is waiting, display a thumbnail of the image to display - added multiple Linux install packages (Ubuntu / Fedora) - added creation date determination of RAW files with libraw - improved the loading of thumbnails, especially for videos. Note: If you use Ubuntu or other linux distros, Qt Multimedia is not yet adapted to gstreamer-1.X. So to get thumbnails of all videos, you need to install "gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg", which might not be in the repositories. If it is not, have a look at http://askubuntu.com/a/575888 - added software bit information to about dialog (32/64bit) - added documentation files to source package - for different languages save the copy destination tags to different config value, thus not mixing different language tags - removed black border from embedded thumbnail BUGS or other CHANGES: - replaced the "no-thumbnail" icon with Gnome-image-x-generic.svg from the gnome icon artists - proper qt5 dlls included in windows install binary (last install binary did not work for many windowses) - faster thumbnails for RAW camera files (if embedded) - don't save (corrected) creation times for RAW file in separated txt file (but do, if it is a video, for instance). This is a settings option, anyways - thumbnail cache more efficiently (sometimes embedded jpgs are very large, in that case use the cache prior to the embedded jpgs). - fixed a bug (introduced to qt behaviour change with qt 5) which caused recomputation of thumbnails even if they were already stored in database - cleaned up the CMake build system - fixed a bug which could cause an application crash if different RAW formats were specified - fixed a bug which caused a deadlock when loading a new directory whilst thumbnails are still loading - fixed a bug which caused a crash on an empty SQL connection - fixed a bug which doesn't allow fullscreen for image viewer on ubuntu with multiple screens - fixed a bug which caused an application crash due to uninitialized variable - fixed a windows debug assertion error when writing updated EXIF date/time data -------------------------------------- 2014-04; by Dominik Rueß; NEW FEATURES: - jump to desired image position in image preview - use exif orientation to display correct orientation in image viewer and for thumbnails, as well - SVG loading Support. The Qt SVG-renderer might render slightly differently than other renderers like Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator - now based on Qt5, instead of Qt4 - added thumbnail loading for videos - added video viewing for the image viewer - added the possibility to output an ownership text file IMPROVEMENTS: - changed the concept of "preserve directories" to "authorship" of files, e.g. photographer's name - Image viewer: double click on graphics view toggles fullscreen mode - made GUI more responsible when copying, using QFuture - structural changes to libmisc - after adding an album, don't jump back in time, only when dedicated button is pressed - when right clicking on images to select new start or end times, don't complain if from and to time is mixed - most of the info boxes don't popup when other dialogs are present - "preserve directory" accepts return key press in line edit - album view table auto stretches to fit space - album viewer: scroll positions of collection previews are re-set whenever a new image combination is displayed - added a progress bar indicating the progress of sorting the files. this was necessary for a large number files having been found - the random image frame in the bottom of the main view will not display the first loaded image all over the frame - Random image framge didn't change pictures if only one widget was provided - In fullscreen image viewer the current file index was missing - added display of complete target for image viewer full screen - swapped the view images and adapt times button for better workflow - try to read proper EXIF creation tags before backing up to simple "DateTime" BUGS: - removed a bug which caused pivot to crash. It was due to large amount of data on the stack instead of the better suited heap - In Qt5 a different behaviour of the return values of a context menu is presented this lead to a 0-pointer bug. - removed a bug which wrote wrong exif meta data to the files (datetime) - removed a bug which was caused by similar files with more than one '.' in the filename. This caused these files to be treated as same in JPEG+RAW mode - removed a bug which disabled the functionality of the 'adapt times' dialog after having swapped to other tabs in between - removed a bug which prevented the closing of the 'computing copy list' dialog before the actual copying started - some bugs in dependend helper modules - fixed a bug which prevented the update of the start date of a selected album by right clicking on an image - fixed a bug which caused crash in the image viewer when skipping through the images fastly. This was caused by faulty threading - fixed another bug which caused a crash of the image viewer. This was caused by FreeImage not being able to convert all images to the RGB format - fixed another bug which caused a crash of the image viewer using the keyboard navigation (index overflow) - Ubuntu Unity full screen works now (tested 13.10) - fixed a bug where viewing images with the image viewer would result in a random order, given many files without having been able to determine file times - generally removed some memory weaknesses -------------------------------------- 2013-02; by Dominik Rueß First release
