PICSimLab is a realtime emulator of development boards with integrated MPLABX/avr-gdb debugger. PICSimLab supports picsim microcontrollers (PIC16F84, PIC16F628, PIC16F648, PIC16F777, PIC16F877A, PIC18F452, PIC18F4520, PIC18F4550 and PIC18F4620) and simavr microcontrollers (ATMEGA328). PICSimLab have integration with MPLABX/Arduino IDE for programming the boards microcontrollers.

  • I have been working my way through "PIC Microcontroller Project Book" by John Iovine. Unfortunately the PICBasic Standard compiler specified appears to be obsolete, so I have been altering the programs to function with Great Cow Basic. PICsim has been extremely useful for testing my efforts at rewriting the programs in the book. It keeps my brain cells active now I'm retired.

  • I have only programmed the 1st board which works flawlessly until now. I saved time prototyping a simple knight rider circuit by only using the PORTB. Written the code, tested and then I moved on the breadboard where the results where quite identical. LEDs for PORTB are not quite visible at higher frequencies. The procedure of in circuit programming for simple or more complex programs can be time consuming and you just made it more efficient. Thanks and Congratulations.
