    phpBB is the best forum CMS out there today. Competitors like vBulletin are not even close to the same amount of developers and plugins. I have been using phpBB and a lot of other CMS:es for a long time and I'm 100% sure I'll never change from phpBB again.

    The benchmark for forum software in my opinion. I have installed a demo version of it for all to use here http://www.opensourcedemos.net/phpBB-demo so it is possible to play with it without having to install.
