Download and unzip the file Pedaba2.8.tar.gz.
Then you got the "Pedaba2.8" folder.
Place the "Pedaba2.8" folder anywhere you like it on your hard disk.
- There are two executable files inside and they are "PEDABA2.8" and "PEDABA2.8-latest-x86_64.AppImage". Check if they have an executable license and if not then license both.
AppImage is ready to run without doing anything at all and this applies to some specific popular and relatively MODERN operating systems GNU / Linux 64 bit. Most users and especially users of older operating systems (eg UBUNTU 18) should avoid AppImage. In general, where the classic package runs fine, you do not need to use AppImage. But it's a fact that, AppImage is not affected by library versions, so , it may be very useful to some users.
The "classic" executable file "PEDABA2.8" depends functionally on two libraries that you must install:
- libsdl2-image-2.0-0
- libsdl2-2.0-0
In some operating systems such as Arch - Slackware - Fedora etc. libraries have a slightly different name.
Once you run the application (for FIRST time), it creates a "hidden" folder ("/home/user_name/.PEDABA") in which the dynamic lists and color palettes will henceforth be kept. Any dynamic lists you have made in the past can be copied here.
It also creates a "visible" folder "Pedaba_DBs where you can keep your databases packed (if you want). These two folders ensure the portability of the application and greatly facilitate any future upgrades! It is easy understandable that the application checks for the existence of these two folders and creates them only if they are absent !!
The Pedaba application uses the whole screen horizontally ! So , if there are taskbars at the left or at the right edge of the screen, you have to make an Operating System setting (autohide ON) for these taskbars. It is very easy...
The application "cooperates" with zenity, yad and kdialog (where and if you need to select or specify a file name to read or save data to disk).
For the KDE users : If you notice any malfunction with kdialog fileselector, then install "zenity" or "yad". In general, the situation with "zenity" and "yad" is much more controlled by Pedaba !
