Passermark 1.13.0 – Much faster viewing
What changed:
- Pages are rendered in a separate background process (
passermark-cli render-server) – the user interface never waits for rendering, fast page flipping no longer piles up outdated requests. If the process crashes it restarts; if it cannot start, the view falls back to rendering inside the program. - Each page is rendered once at roughly twice the viewing size; zoom levels and thumbnails are scaled from it. A page's images are unpacked only once instead of once per zoom level and per thumbnail.
- Strong zoom renders only the visible part, pixel-exact even in a rotated view.
- Saving over the same file now works on Windows too (the file is read into memory and released).
- Edit mode: the object follows the mouse semi-transparently while dragging; after applying, old images stay as placeholders and are renewed in the background.
- The automatic check reads unchanged files directly – opening no longer re-saves the file.
Troubleshooting: if something misbehaves, PASSERMARK_RENDER=local switches back to the old rendering – a quick way to narrow down the cause.
Also in this release: the READMEs now include screenshots, and the changelog entry for 1.12.6 (preflight adjustments) has been added retroactively.
Installers and AppImage are attached below. The full changelog is in (DE/ES/FR/HU translations available).
