Major Features and Changes include:

• PakOS 12 (End of 10) edition is now focused on defensive cyber security, hence inclusion of Hardening Scripts to increase the systems hardening score from 62 to 82 after all scripts have been run. Similarly, CIS hardening scripts, once run, increase its compliance to 80%. Since hardening scripts development is a slow process, hence eve CIS releases these after considerable time has passed, hence this edition is still based on Debian 12. You can upgrade the system to Debian 13, however, hardening scripts compatibility will be questionable, as no hardening scripts fro Debian 13 exists as of now. It may even potentially break the system. So either upgrade the system to Debian 13, or use Debian 12 and harden it.

• This release can be hardened as per CIS hardening standards level 2 with 80% compliance. Based on modified open source CIS hardening scripts from https://github.com/ovh/debian-cis.

• Lynis Auditing Score can be increased from 62 to 82, using Dan Oancea's Vanguard Elite Hardening Suit, accessible after installing its pre requisite scripts and launching Van Guard Elite GUI and implementing all the provided options one by one from PakOS Security (Right on the desktop). • Calm AV scanning is now easily accessible through desktop right mouse click sub menu, providing an easy to use GUI for scanning the infected folder.

• OpenSnitch GUI IPS/IDS is already in place to inform any out going traffic to the user, however all common scenarios are pre-configured so that end user is not bothered again and again. So any question asking for a new connection can be decided by the end user.

• Base Firewall rules are already in place, so any new application using a custom port numbers will need to be configured inside UFW GUI.

• NOC monitoring agents like Zabbix, and Wazuh SIEM agent are now optional to install and configure and are no longer installed by default. However, Inside Accessories Sub Menu, after installing agents from PakOS Security , one can install and then use the dialogues to input server IP and port numbers to easily configure both using GUI, instead of messing with configuration files.

• A new Firefox Secure Menu Entry is fully sand boxed out of the box, however user has the choice to use the sandbox feature as per choice and level of security required.

• DuckDuckGo can be made default search engine, although again user has the choice to select Google or DuckDuckGo as per requirement.

• Firefox is installed through their official repository, hence latest version is always available, and its updates can be continuously installed using the update manager.

• GUI update manager is now installed out of the box, and notifies the user with each new update. Updates can be installed using the same as well.

• OnlyOffice 9 is back with the latest release, and now supports Urdu text input out of the box.

• AI Assistant now gives choice of all modern AI Agents including either Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, Poe or Black Box AI agents. You will need Microsoft or Google Account to use them fully.

• AI Assistant is now very lightweight, no heavy deb file is being used to launch it.

• PakOS News aggregator can show latest news from RSS feeds emulating Windows 11 Widget Box.

• Rofi Launcher , mimicking Windows 11 Start Menu has now additional option to browse files in home folder as well as a 3rd option, along with Apps and Open Windows selection and launching.

• You can change desktop wallpaper by right clicking anywhere and selecting Set Random Wallpaper. Wallpaper rotation can be disabled by un-selecting Enable Slide show in Desktop preferences.

• Similarly any image can be selected as wallpaper, once you right click on it, then a Set as Wallpaper Option appears in right click menu.

• Grub Menu gets full theme support on system 1st launch, along with multiple manual hardening steps. Please let it complete to fully harden the system and give a visual re-haul to the installed system. Any many more small tweaks.
