The openmodem project is intended to be a Open Source, cross-platform project with several codecs for use on the amateur radio bands in radio data transmission.

All codecs will be sound card based and will not require external hardware for radio transmission other than the radio-computer interface.

A functional command set will be devised for use by external software clients that may act as a GUI application. A demo application is planned designed to be a WinLINK 2000 client. The API will be flexible enough for other non-WinLINK GUI apps to use the modem as a service provider to radio data communication using any of the codecs developed. XMLRPC developers needed.

At this point the codecs in development include PACTOR I, WinMOR, and AFSK PACKET are being developed.

Requirements are P4 Class or higher CPU with 16 bit (32 bit preferred) soundcard. Soundcard should be capable of duplex operation w/max sample rates to 48k (119k preferred) - no external soundcards supported yet

User Reviews

  • This idea sounds awesome! Would it be possible to make an iOS version of winlink to run on iPhones? FT8, JT65, & JT9 data modes would be really useful to have also.
