The VirtualBox virtual appliance is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit that has all the latest
software updates applied as of 30 December 2014.  It has been tested with MacOS X
10.10.1 as the host using VirtualBox version 4.3.20.  The appliance should function
equally well under a Linux or Windows host.  When importing the appliance into
VirtualBox, be sure the Network interfaces are assigned new unique MAC addresses.

Because the new Ubuntu Unity Desktop is widely disliked, the appliance also has the
classic Gnome Desktop installed as an option.

changing the password after first login is recommended.
