    I'm a commercial shrimp boat captain of 35 years and have been using a commercially bought navigation program that worked ok with what we were doing. I have been an amatuer C/C++ programmer for the last 20 years and developed software for my personal use on-board. I don't have the time to fully develope a good navigation application that does everything that OpenCPN does. I recently got a job with my boat guarding oil exploration underwater seismograph cable from getting damaged by other fisherman and had to installed AIS because of all the oil field traffic. The program I was using got overload by all the targets in the area that I'm working in, OpenCPN handled this very well. I want to give this application 2 THUMBS UP and plan to work on plugins.
