O OnStepper pretende ser um substituto vantajoso para os programas básicos de uso do OnStep (na verdade, Smart Web Server e Android App).
É capaz de se comunicar com OnStep via WiFi ou conexão direta via USB. Em ambos os modos, os comandos do LX200 são utilizados diretamente, conforme descrito no site OnStep, sem a necessidade de instalação de drivers ASCOM, apenas o driver básico que o próprio Windows necessita (CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller)
O OnStep é um sistema goto de motor de passo controlado por computador para telescópios com montagens Equatoriais e Alt/Az.
