I absolutely love Notepad++; I have completely replaced MS Notepad with it. I use it on a daily basis.
The one thing I would change about Notepad++ is I would add the ability to use the Ctrl+F4 hotkey to close the currently open tab (unless this is already supported and I have missed it, in which case I take that back).

It was a great editor until the dev decided he should make it type out a political message on startup.
I agree with the message, but it's totally wrong to exhibit malware-like behavior just to get your political agenda across *in a professional editor.*

I prefer NP++ for editing XML files, because of its ability to handle large XML files at a more than acceptable speed. Also translation of XML files is very quick, so I use NP++ for testing XSLT as well. Great responding to feature requests! Column editing for instance has been approved a lot!

If you can't afford Dreamweaver. This is the one you should pick

I've been using a lot of text editors in Windows and Linux, and I have to say that emacs it's the better one with difference. And, I can't understand why if npp is GNU and opensource, it isn't on Linux.

the best and most convenient of all the text editor that I used

Works pretty well with DOS/BATCH but has some problems with matching parenthesis, etc Has a good plugin for comparing versions, in case you have independent updates. Had a few strange bugs but nothing major.

I love this tool and consider it to be an absolute necessity. I've been using it for about 6 or 7 months now, and until now I have had no complaints/concerns. I've just downloaded the newest version (Notepad++ v5.9.8 Installer) and uploaded to virustotal to compare the SHA-1. Although they did match, this has been flagged as containing a virus by ClamAV "PUA.Script.Packed-2." Hopefully this is only a false positive, either way it is necessary to inform the developer and users of the potential threat. The specific scan results can be fourd here - https://www.virustotal.com/file/8e03d21037a245bb0567a13d8cd87c1d72dc2095758a640750ee013a4ebf4330/analysis/1326710345/

It isn't an IDE, but it is good for Python. I use it for most of my coding.

Best editor for windows in my opinion.

Text Editing is more serious staff than some favor NotepadPlus. As it is described here goals are restricted with script editing and Windows Notepad Replacement. After all search on Plugings, I still need other applications to handle CSV files, SpreadSheet text columns, Dictionaries and Data. Texture Business still Large for Notepad++ to cover all needs.

My favorite text editor for Windows, free or otherwise.
-
Absolutely excellent - the syntax highlighting and collapse/expand functionality is really useful, and I like the context menu entry, it's very convenient. My only problem with it is that my computer buzzes when displaying the control characters.

Makes editing html/css/js/php much easier. I also occasionally use the macros to do a tedious operation.

I like his plugins! :)

Hello, I preferred yellow/green colors to know changes and saved lines (to know what changed and what saved) if you save, you don't see what changed anymore :( you might add green bubbles or white ou grey or i don't know... But I like your notepad other thing, Macros need to be modify.. with scripting language to show step by step. I didn't found it :( So ... keep developing Notepad++, i will stay a user :)) good job
